Hi!
This summer, I have split my time up by studying for the MCAT and doing non-clinical volunteering. However, I do not have a reliable method of transportation where I currently am, so I am wondering if doing virtual volunteering is an acceptable way of doing non-clinical volunteering. In addition, if anyone has any ideas of what kind of virtual volunteering I could be doing, that would be great!
Thank you.

Virtual volunteering is absolutely an acceptable way of doing non-clinical volunteering, but I wouldn't recommend relying solely on virtual non-clinical volunteering. Volunteering with communities face to face is also important to have somewhere on your application.

I'm am ambassador for Crisis Text Line, which is pretty common among premed students if you have the emotional capacity to support at this time. You can see more info here: Volunteer at Crisis Text Line

Got it, thank you for letting me know! Would you recommend any particular split between in-person vs virtual? How many hours would you say are acceptable from virtual volunteering out of total non-clinical hours?

Acceptable but not sufficient. Once you are done with MCAT prep, find in-person activities.
Thanks for the response! What percentage would you say is an acceptable amount for virtual hours? For example, if I was going for 200 hours of non-clinical volunteering, would it be okay if 100 of them were virtual?

You could read our physician profiles on the main page or watch our videos, and that could be as good as virtual shadowing. Regardless of the hours of virtual, you must have 50 hours of in-person shadowing and 150 hours of other clinical exposure in person.
