I bought a box of pharmacology study cards. Would it help me to start studying these this summer before starting pharm school in the fall or should I just relax? Right now, I'm basically ignorant about the technical aspects of pharmacology.

It depends on if your school teaches pharmacology during the first year. I had a fundamentals course which taught the concepts that we will need to understand, but I don't have real pharmacology with specific drugs until year two.

The RX school where my dad works has a Top 100 exam in the first year. Basically get everyone up to speed on the major drugs, especially for those that don't have any tech experience. Just the basic brand/generic name, forms it's avavilable in, strengths, and generally when it might be used. I think the second year is when they really get into hardcore mechanisms etc. that constitutes pharmacology. If you aren't familiar with major drugs it might be a nice idea to flip through some cards. My personal preference is that school and drugs will dominate you once classes start, so find something else to have your mind on for the summer. To each his/her own, however. Good luck! 🙂
