I have been invited to a residency program. However, I would like to visit the program and take a closer look on the program. Thus, I have been wondering if it is a good idea to pay it a visit.

It isn’t a good idea to visit the program beforehand, it makes you seem overly eager. We have had applicants do similar things and it didn’t impress our attendings. Just attend the interview and write the program a letter afterwards. Just my two cents.

What type of residency program are you applying for? I would say the answer really depends on the program director. For example, I encourage applicants who are interested in applying for our AEGD program to come and visit our clinic before the interview and that way they can gauge how much they like our program and the faculty can also gauge the applicant as well.
