Okay guys so in filling out the VMCAS stuff, what do you put for the "to" date when its to present? Do you put Oct 2007 since that's when they'll read it? Sept 2007 since that's when you've filled it out? or some other date like 9999 for the year so they know its to present?

Correct me (someone) if I'm wrong, but I believe you leave it blank if you still currently work there.

I, too, believe you can just leave it blank.

fwiw, i put october. i figger they can figger it out for themselves.

Last year I think my application made me fill in an end date but this year it doesn't, so I'm leaving it blank. I want to make sure it is crystal clear that I am continuing to accumulate hours!

I put October too, as that as how far I had counted my hours to. I'm sure adcomms realize that you didn't quit all of your jobs/clubs/volunteer experience right when you applied.

I had a question about this so I called about a month ago. The person I spoke with said to put my end date as October since that is the latest possible date I can send the application, but estimate my hours to the time I think I will still be at that position. Then use the explanation statement to clarify that my hours were extimated to xxxx date, but my end date was until xxxx date as per VMCAS help line, or however you want to word it.

You can leave it blank and the overview page will list your end date as "present". I also used the explanation statement to clarify that as well b/c I'm picking up more hours after the October deadline...and I want all my credit!

yup. anything that i did that was not ending (aka current up through them recieving the app and interviewing me), i left the end date blank. unless i knew of a date that i was ending the activity, the field was left blank. no one questioned me or asked me about that, so i guess it is just understood.

Ditto.

This is from the VMCAS instruction page:

"The total hours should reflect completed hours (total hours to date), and should not include future hours."

So I assume that it means up to the time of the application due date.
