I'm just finishing my VMCAS application and printed it out to look at it. My personal statement keeps printing as one big essay without any paragraph breaks. I have tried several things to make it right and nothing works! I've cut and paste from Microsoft word into the app and then followed their instructions about paragraph breaks (skip a line to change paragraphs or put three spaces in front of each new paragraph) and also tried typing the whole thing in with their paragraph instructions. Neither work. Am I being too crazy about this? Maybe it will print correctly when sent to the schools??? Is it my computer -- I am using a Mac but with Internet Explorer. The essay does not look good as one big stream of consciousness!! Any help would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly (boy, this was a year ago now! ahh!) VMCAS advises you to leave three spaces to indicate the start of a new paragraph, and tells you in the instructions (as far as I can remember) that it will look like one big paragraph, but when they send it out it gets fixed (if you've left the requisite three spaces to indicate a new paragraph) hope that helps, I would look around a bit more thoroughly at the VMCAS instructions, in case theyve changed it.

same thing happened to me last year. i called up vmcas and they said the same thing -- they just don't show up when you print it out for some reason (which is dumb if you ask me).

If you read in the instructions found somewhere on the application website, it recommends you print the essay before submitting. It also mentions that the computer will not print the personal statement with paragraph spacing and that when it is submitted for review the spacings you entered will appear correctly. So no worries

Thanks to everyone who replied. I dug through the VMCAS instructions again and, yes, the essay prints out as one big essay but apparently will be formatted when sent to the schools.
