has anyone figured out why logon is sometimes impossible - the site won't even open? does this get worse as the deadline approaches??

I haven't been able to log on since last night either! I don't recall having so much trouble last year. Having vmcas go down on the weekends is not going to work--the funny thing to me is that we haven't even reached the "critical" 2 weeks before the deadline! Sorry I can't help you out, just commiserate!

Geez, sorry to hear you guys are running into so many problems with vmcas this year. I don't remember having that many problems last year.

Hopefully they sort it all out soon. Good luck to everyone applying! Maybe I'll see some of you at WI next year 🙂

I can't get in either, and I was hoping to have it all done and over with this weekend. So much for getting things done before that critical 2 week mark, when the site is not even up on the weekends.

At least I'm not alone.. but now I have gone through every shred of evidence of high school and before to get a handle on what I've done.. so I am now ready to type like crazy if they get it opened up to enter things. I've been reading other posts here.. This discussion forum has been amazingly helpful.

Hey guys,
I am not filling out apps but if anyone has the phone number for VMCAS or e-mail it might be worth calling/e-mailing to let them know there's an issue. If they already know about it there might be a message on the voicemail saying we know about the problem and the system will be back up on such and such date/ time.

That's a great idea.. except.. I did e-mail them yesterday and try to call, but there was no response and the messages on the phone line said nothing about the server being down. I might call them tomorrow and let them know that it was down all weekend, but surely someone has let them know by now..

Then again, I think it was down on August 25th and 26th (noticed there was a problem on those two days because of posts in this forum)..

It's almost like when they go home for the weekend, they let the vmcas application have a break too. Not very productive for us 🙁

Just when I had gotten myself all situated on the couch with all my files and whatnot, and snacks, and ready for a good 3 hour session on the site...denied!

I have to say this is really irritating, considering all their talk about getting in your applications early. Pfft!

What worries me more than not being able to log in myself, is that I have all three eLORs still unwritten (have been registered for a month or more)! I have no idea if my rec writers can get into vmcas either. I am already paranoid about getting them in on time, so this is only adding to the anxiety! Hopefully they're not waiting for the weekend to write them! <deep breathing>

Ok, deep breath guys. I know it's stressful, but it will be ok. I promise that if you're all similar problems, everyone applying is having them (vmcas is not targeting problems towards SDNers only! 😛) Yes, I agree it's a pain, but everything will work out! Promise!!

So go ahead and vent (I'd be doing the same). Just try not to let it get to you too much. Just make sure you have everything in order so that when the system is back up, you can kick butt! Entering the data goes quick and I highly recommend cutting/pasting the PS, activity descriptions, etc from Micro. Word (if you haven't thought of that already). So, if you have it all ready to go, it really shouldn't take very long at all!

Just think you'll all laugh about the hassle when you get your acceptance letters!

...our high speed internet server. they checked the vmcas website and determined that the site is actually disconnecting people. they are either 1) down completely or 2) cannot handle the traffic. i only mention this because increasing my server "time out" would allow for a connection - but at&t said my setting was for 10 minutes and i actually get timed out in 10 seconds. can you believe we are paying for this "service"? if you have time tomorrow call your school and vmcas in washington!

VMCAS is up again. After being inaccessible all weekend, it's ready to play now that the week is busy. how frusturating.

but I guess we should just be grateful that it's up at all!

Of course, shortly after I submitted it I realized I had forgotten a "community experience or hobby" - bah. I don't suppose my PADI diving certification would have made or broken my application, but I am still frusturated! And after I sat on the application, proof-reading it obsessively, for so many weeks!

I must have read over it 10 times before I finally hit submit, and I knew I was going to forget something. I just hit submit and now I stopped thinking about it! I dont want to kill myself over it!

🙁 This is so frustrating! I was able to log on once earlier tonight, but I just tried again a few minutes ago & the site won't let me in. We are paying so much for this "service," you would think that some of that money could go towards paying for a better server that doesn't have so many problems or at least towards paying for more IT tech support staff. Hopefully they'll get the current issue resolved soon, but I'm really worried that the next 20 days leading up to the deadline with be like this. Grrr!

I sent them another message yesterday when I couldn't get in, to the effect of asking if they were going to let me apply to vet school or not. I was able to get in about 15 minutes later, and forgot about my email to them, and they called me this morning to ask what time it was down and if things were better. I get they are finally getting the message that Type As will call and email and call and email and call some more...

The call was nice, but it's still pretty crap for a service we're paying for.
