Hello everyone,

Currently have a Volk 2.2 Panretinal for indirect ophthalmoscopy. Some attendings have suggested getting a 28 diopter lens for smaller pupils/pediatrics cases. Is this necessary? Or will the 2.2 Panretinal suffice?

Thanks!

What level of training are you?
Fellowship plans?

I'm about to start intern year. Have educational funds I can use to buy lenses. Possibly retina?

A lot of programs have discounts when you start PGY-2 year. Use educational funds for educational electronics (iPad) or books for ophtho. Those atlas types run you quite a pretty penny.

Our peds clinic supply you with 28d. With that being said, I do have a 30d that comes in handy for non accidental trauma exams.

I wouldnt bother with a 28 for now. I bought. 30 during residency, but find that i dont use it much. Stick with you 2.2. 90, and maybe 66 or 78. Gonio lens if your clinic does not have them.

Borrow someone elses 28 later and test drive before you buy.
