I just have a quick question. Do the colleges check up on the accuracy of the number of volunteer hours you recorded? Do they verify with the club or organization you did it with? It's cuz I volunteered at a homeless shelter and not sure if they still have the record of volunteers. thanks.

No way. It would NEVER happen.

Were you being sarcastic? Because I am sure some schools might.

All I know is that the school does send a list of students in whatever club, etc but I don't know if they check up on hours.

I doubt that they actually check into it, but it might come up in an interview. So if you said that you spent 300 hours volunteering in a soup kitchen, they might ask you about the type of experiences you had. If you can't answer the question very well they might be suspicious.

I also ran into this problem on my app. In high school I volunteered with the local ski patrol for 3 years. I spent at least 8 hours almost every weekend each winter (along with some summer stuff, like helping out at bike races). I don't remember exactly how many hours I put in, so I said "200+." I probably did many more hours than that, but I didn't want to overstate my hours. If it comes up, I'll talk about specific things that I did/tell a funny story or two.

Heh, nope, I wasn't being sarcastic. They have so much to do regarding the admission process already. There is no way they can look into whether you spend 100 or 200 hours volunteering at the homeless shelter. So long as you aren't making stuff up, I wouldn't worry. 🙂
