Im currently looking to volunteer to help build my application, is it vital to volunteer in a dental environment or do you feel that other health care environments should suffice as well like volunteering at a hospital? Thanks for your feedback.

If you have shadowing and maybe a few months working experience in dental office, then volunteering can be done any where. It is volunteering after all. I had 0 dental volunteering and done all my volunteering in the hospital and they did not ask anything about it in any of my interviews. In fact I think it will be looked at positively, beacuse they know that you have been involved in other health care field and you are not just coming to dentistry blindly.

I was told by an adcom member that any volunteer work done helping people is good (ie. habitat for humanity) but that working in a community health clinic is even better. As long as your doing something it helps.

Besides shadowing a Dentist and volunteering in a Dental setting, you can volunteer in your community: hospital, school, nursing homes, especially volunteering with the youth. That all looks good.

Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated. Is there anyone in Arizona that knows where to volunteer ive called many places and still havent heard back yet..

there's a place called the CASS clinic in downtown phoenix. it's really hard to volunteer there. i tried emailing/calling them several times, but no one ever contacted me. the pre-health advisor at ASU said st. vincents has some sort of dental clinic that is in downtown phoenix, but i couldnt really find any info on it.
