I am applying this cycle but I don't have very many volunteer hours. I have shadowed about 20+ hours and I'm still jumping through hoops to get into volunteering at the local free clinic. I may not be able to start until maybe March. Does it look bad that I'm volunteering so late? Should I get more hours and submit the app later? Any advice is appreciated.

I'm also curious about the same thing! Could someone whose been in this situation share what they did and how it turned out? Thanks!! 😀

i didnt start til April... u'll be fine.

About 110. 70 in a clinic, 40 with a general dentist. Some school wants at least 100, so i did that much to be safe.

I volunteered late and hauled a** to get hours. When this cycle started in June, I started my volunteering literally in May while combining work and DAT studying. I turned in AADSAS end of June to hit first mailing batch. Lol I think i made 50 hours only but I put it as ongoing. 5 acceptances though Dec. 1 so it didnt hurt me too much.

Here's some advice: When they asked me about volunteering activities during the interviews, I made sure to let them know that my volunteering has been ongoing so the 50 they saw on paper didnt let them think I was weak in that section.

Hope that helps.

i'm also in the same boat. was anyone else in the same situation and got accepted? so far I have about 30 hours but applying this coming june, and most of it was from this past january and onwards... does it look bad if your shadowing hours are so recent prior to applying?

I'm also curious about this. Advice please? Anyone?
