I haven't been able to volunteer within the last year because I work fulltims and go to a school. I have volunteered in the past and I was a dental assistant. Is it going to hurt my chances sine haven't within the last year?

As long as you are keeping active with school and work then I don't see any reason why not volunteering in the past year would be held against you. However, I would really try to find a few hours a week to volunteer.
