Wait list etiquette

I hope I'm not being repetitive here but I have some questions for fellow waitlisters out there. I've been wait listed at two programs. I really like both programs and would be thrilled to be accepted at either. How much contact is appropriate to make with the programs? If I check in every couple weeks does it make me look interested, or annoying? Is it appropriate to ask how many other students there are on the wait list? Is there anything else I can/should do (reiterate my qualifications, mention new volunteer work, tell them I haven't been accepted anywhere else)? Throughout this process I've always waited silently to hear from the programs but this is my third time applying so maybe I need to try a new strategy. Any positive input is appreciated!

I would call and ask questions about their list: how its ranked, how many students are on it, and is there anything you can do to improve your application you can also reiterate that they are you're top choice . Its what I did! I got accepted off a waitlist today

Thanks for the tips! So you think calling is better than emailing? I hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely pursue that. Congratulations on getting accepted! I'll definitely check out your blog as well.

I think both are good. I called the first time because I had so many questions. I then followed up to check in my statusb about a month later. I then emailed with questions about the program. And thank you! !

It's most likely that the applicants on the waitlist are already ranked and they just take them in order as admissions offers get declined over time. I would try what ptlover said now and maybe again in late April just to be sure, and then leave it at that.

I'll definitely use all this advice, I appreciate it! SDN has been so great, I wish I'd have known about it when I was applying for the first time!
