Im thinking more DO than MD since MD applications are due a lot sooner. I have not taken the MCAT yet and dont know whether to wait until spring to take it and thus apply early next year. I would mainly do this route b/c I would be up-to-date in ochem since the last time i took ochem was couple years ago (would this hinder my MCAT?) Otherwise I can take MCAT like in Oct/Nov i hope as I could study all this summer and beginning of fall study with ochem professor so I would be more ready for the ochem part. That would mean however a late application (like Dec/jan-ish). I will hve my DO LOR by then and my cgpa will be around 3.4-5 (aacomas) and sgpa 3.6-7(aacomas). I will have 150+hrs of volunteering at my church and worked fulltime thru all of college as I have a family to support (I work on surgical floor as nursing aide). So what im wondering is should I try to apply late this year or just apply early next year? I know early is best but I just want to get on with life haha feel like ive been undergrad forever!

Well, that is tricky. On one hand, I know how it sucks to keep waiting around, especially another year. However, applying in late December or January is pretty damn late. I (along with most people on here) would say take your time, do well on the MCAT, and apply June 1st 2012.

Also, I took the MCAT before I took OchemII. I definitely prob suffered 1-2 points on my BS section due to this. I had to literally guess at the token 'insane ochem passage'

OP, I retook the MCAT in Sept, wasn't complete until mid-October. I have pretty good stats as a DO candidate and still got rejections from a few top schools. I'd say the best way to go is applying as early as you can. If that means waiting a year, I'd say that's the best way to go. Besides, it's better to wait a year and have both an early and strong application, than apply late; and an early and strong application a year from now beats having to reapply.

Good luck to you!
