I did search threads before posting this but I found a lot of 2004-6 threads that all had the same consensus (do the qbank starting 1 mo out from the exam).

I just wanted to pose this out there again & see what people think. I'm taking the exam in late May and am in the process of pass 1.

Wasn't sure if it's worth it to do a random block a day now while doing pass 1 or if the general consensus is to wait until after pass 1 (& thus starting pass 2) to do random blocks? Even if thats going to be ~5-6 weeks prior to the test?

Thanks for any thoughts. I'm one of those who is giving myself 2 mos to study for this - not more, so hopefully I won't get a whole lot of "what?! You didn't start qbank 4 mos ago!??!?!?!" TIA

I struggled a little bit with this question myself and decided to just bite the bullet and start doing Qbank questions now while still in class (and prior to any significant Step 1 studying). I figured it's better to get earlier exposure to the type of material to expect than to really rely on the Qbanks as an assessment of progress. I've found that even just doing 20 questions per day I'm at least learning a few details here and there that will help me with my intense studying later. In addition, since my (pre-studying) average isn't that far off the average for all users, it's building my confidence a little which definitely is a plus.

i take step 1 in early june and am still in the midst of my first pass through the material, but i have started questions. not a ton. just some. i do 48 a weekend (usually 24 each day) on random. as pepper said, it is good to get used to the questions from the beginning. that way as you study, you can almost write questions in your head about what you are studying at the time.

start doing questions now, think of it as preparing for a marathon, need to built endurance so we can last that 8 hours of pure torture

I would do questions in your spare time. It's not going to hurt you and it's a very good review.
^ is right on.

I plan on doing this:

1st run thru-----> then junk qbank

2nd run thru-----> then Kaplan qbank

3rd run thru-----> then UWorld qbank

with about a month for each run thru.

Good luck
