I have my application completely ready to submit, but I am waiting to receive an LOR from a prof. I already have the letter, but it is two years old and I am waiting for her to update it. I asked her, but she doesn't know when he will have it ready. It could be one day or it could be two weeks.

Should I submit with the old letter or wait for the new one?

You should be able to submit now then add the Lor to your application later.

You really don't need LOR until you want to submit your secondaries. Go ahead and submit the primary, and you can add the letter once it is complete.

Thanks for the replies.

Can I submit letters after submission for both AMCAS and TMDSAS?

Also, on the small chance that my letter writer will not submit the letter, I think that I will submit with the old letter, then when I receive the new letter delete the old one from my application and add the new one. Does that sound OK?

Once you send a letter to a school, it can't be deleted. So, I suggest you submit your primary application now without assigning any letters to specific schools. You can assign the letters later, once you know which letters you will have.

I have 4 other letters. So you suggest holding all the letters until I receive the last one? What about submitting my 4 letters now and submitting the last one when I get it?

You can submit the letters to AMCAS now, but I wouldn't assign them to the schools until you know their letter requirements (some schools won't tell you them until you get their secondary).

When I applied, I assigned the letters once I received and submitted a school's secondary.

Speaking of submitting now (today), this is still considered "early" right? How long do you guys estimate verification will take with a submission today? 3 weeks?

Yes you will still be early. I'm not up on the current statistics of this cycle's verification time, but I'd say 3 weeks is probably a good/generous estimate.

Generous as in maybe a tiny less?

Maybe...but like I said, I don't know how verification is going at this point. A user named DAPI made a graph showing submit date vs. how long it took to get verified.

(Credit to DAPI!)

EDIT: so 3 weeks seems generous, but with the 1-week delay this year and almost double the number of applicants submitting day 1 compared to last year, it may take even longer...or they may speed it up...

I assume they will verify at the same rate as always. I doubt they care much to hire more and work overtime to compensate for the 6 days less of potential verification. I've been considering myself 10 days past the opening since it's likely a lot of people never knew about the change and signed in at 9:30 am ET on june 4 to find they could not submit until the 10th, so hopefully < 3 weeks and am verified by early July.

And thank you for your responses and that wonderful graph.

Just submitted my app. I am planning on completing prereqs at a university at a in the spring, and I indicated this in my application. I have not yet attended the university, therefore I cannot send a transcript to AMCAS. After I submitted my application I received an email from AMCAS asking for the transcript. I sent an email to AMCAS telling them this. I hope that I did not make a mistake in my application. Is there anything I can do at this point?
