....so I have been complete at most schools for about 6-12 days now. I understand that it may take longer than 12 days to receive interview invites but that doesn't stop me from incessantly refreshing my email every 10 minutes. The funny thing is the one invite I have received came via a phone call....lol, making the email refreshing pointless!

How are you all coping with the process?

Do you each suffer from the neurotic symptoms manifested through "email refreshing" that is present in a significant number of pre-medical applicants? And if so, how do you handle daily life (ie. valium, endless pacing, pointless outburts, smash your computer, etc). Please chime in!

Chill!!! It's a loooooong process, so just try to relax and breathe.....:luck:

To be honest, I check my e-mail about every 2 minutes. That's not a joke/exaggeration. Smartphones feed obsession like no other!

I've been trying to distract myself with other things, but in the end, I just keep coming back to check these forums and my email. This period will be over relatively soon, I hope! 🙄

Ugh, I am the same way. I check the forums hourly and my email every like 15 minutes. I just want to hear back something from someone, even a rejection will do!

I was pretty excited and obsessed over checking my email too when I'd started getting complete at various schools - even bought a new cell and data just for email purpose!! =)..what I'd recommend, though, is to try and busy yourself in other tasks, while keeping a regular tab on your emails, so as to take your mind off that refresh button ... it will take some time for the interviews to come out..so just relax and perhaps spend that time in preparing for the interviews. =)

Haha, mine is an android, and yeah can't resist from pressing that email button again and again 😀 it's actually a great way for me to shake off that early morning sleep, by checking my emails while still half-asleep...😛

I told myself that I'd stop checking my email for TWO DAYS!...

I checked it an hour later. There is no hope me 🙂

Just wait until you start putting the blame on your mail client... at a point you start convincing yourself that it is Gmail's fault that you haven't heard anything... Ha good stuff, this thread brightened my day.

Last word of advice... when all other attempts to not be obsessed with checking e-mail fails... try beer.

Yeah, I should try a more realistic goal... Like 3 hours haha

I check my e-mail twice a day.

Consider this fact - if you can't control your emotions when waiting for e-mail, how will you control your emotions when you have lives in your hands. This career is going to be nothing but anticipation and stress. Don't let it get to you. Read some Carl Sagan, realize how small and insignificant your life is in the scheme of the universe, and then go relax and have a beer.

I have found myself researching and drinking finer beer than before this med process. haha. Maybe school will occupy me now.

My Life:

Email....SDN....Email....SDN....Bathroom Break (gotta hurry back I mighta missed an email) - "darn no email".....maybe SDN....mabye I should eat sometime today (but then I might miss an email).....SDN.....Sure am hungry, thank goodnees for smartphones (but they aren't as current as refreshing on my computer and there could be errors, better stay by the computer - I can eat when I get more interviews)......lol lol lol.

Time for the Psych Ward!!!!! :d

I used to do this like crazy. Having an Iphone with push email capabilities sucks balls. I used to always jump when I hear the "you got mail" sound.. only to be disappointed by the appearance of a wild junk mail. Once you start getting a few invites, you calm down. Its still exciting to see a new invite come through, but I've got 4 lined up already and I'm more worried about nailing these four now than receiving new ones!

I think waiting for the first one is always the worst 🙂

Totally agree with your post on all levels... you start relaxing a bit after you start to feel somewhat worthy of being a part of this process. And the push e-mail capability is the worst. For sure.

Use an email client and emails will instantly pop up so you don't have to refresh every two minutes...

i have IMAP on my android.. technically it's supposed to notify me when a new mail comes, but I think after the infinite amount of times that I have hit refresh myself, it has altogether stopped giving me email notifications... 😳

every time my phone tells me I have an email, I get super excited...and then it's always another email from my course instructors 🙁 or a discount from Bed Bath and Beyond... 😀

i swear ever since interview invitations have started to go out i unsubscribed from like every mailing list cuz i couldnt stand seeing i have an email only to be disappointed that its a discount email

Haha SisterDisco I do the exact same thing. Hear the mail alert and I fly across the room destroying all in my path just to find out I "Won the Irish Lottery".

ha, i did this too.

The bad news is I have received no invites yet. The good news is since I started looking through my junk mail I found out I'm a heir to a king in Africa and will be cashing my money order promptly in the morning. YES! 👍

That is incredible! I checked my Inbox, and apparently I am CasaNova because Jennifer, Sanra, Heather, Michelle, Ariel, and Stacey all sent me emails and want to meet today!!!

....However still no more invites.....🙁

Such "Obssessive Email Refreshing" has now turned into "Post Interview Distress Syndrome". I just came back from my second interview and my first day at work has not been very productive to say the least.

You don't happen to go to LUC do you? Serious question haha

Good to know! I have just been checking my junk mail every time I check my Inbox. So far only 2 schools have been screened by the filter, but I should just add the schools in advance to avoid any possible missed emails...lol.

Since all my emails come to my blackberry, I just obsessively check as soon as something comes through... I have three invites so far, soooo I just wish that number was higher!

haha glad to know I'm not the only one doing this. I'm also constantly checking my phone to make sure my ringer is on.

YES, I check far too often. I'm working hard to control myself and leave the email and the portals alone.

My obsessive e-mail checking has been put to rest after 6 interview invites, 3 of which are from my top 4 schools. I hope you all experience this as well! 👍

Kinda hate you a little bit.

Only 4 invites for me 🙁

So are you saying obsessive email checking has paid off?!!!! 😉 Better double time it over here.

You all make me sad. I have 0 🙁

I didn't get my MCAT scores back until August.

I think there was a lot more email refreshing when I was waiting for interview invites. After the first batch of 5 interview invites, I slowed down. Then it shifts to checking for letters in the mail box.

Now I still check email a fair amount but there's no real reason to it. What the admissions process can do to someone lol

Some schools actually notify their decision by email, which motivates you to do more email checking.
