I interviewed at both the LECOM schools in Nov. and Dec. 05. and have been on both of their waitlists since the very end of Dec. I need some insight or encouragement here. Honestly I'm starting to fill a bit discouraged. Any amazing wiatlist stories out there? Ive sent 2 LOIs what else can I do?

I'm an MSIV at LECOM. I also was placed on the wait list and felt the same way. I didn't get in until the summer. I figured I would just wait a year and decided to do that. I was traveling for the summer thinking I had a year to do whatever, and out of the blue I received a call from LECOM to see if I was still interested. I said yes, and a week later they called me and told me I was in. Talk about last minute. By the way don't let the wait list thing bother you at all, if it was a predictor of success I wouldn't be one of the top students in my class. Good luck.

Accoriding to the staff, the LECOM-Bradenton alternate list had about 90 people on ity last year and ~45 got in. I couldn't tell you about the Erie campus, but maybe you could ask them?

Do you know if they do put alternates into high medium and low categories?

I have heard them say that they don't. I think that is the official position. In practice, I would think that there are files that tend to stay on the top of the pile. The staff also suggested that it is a good thing to keep them updated-- send in more letters of recommendation and new copies of transcripts, for example. Any of those things can help.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know how often the alternates' applications are reviewed at the LECOMs?

Can you tell me what your stats were? I just want to get an idea, because I applied to these schools, but I haven't not even interviewed there.

I don't know what the schedule is like at the Erie Campus, but in Bradenton they apparently review alternate files once per month during interview season and then more frequently after that. Or, at least, that's what I was told by several different people on the ADCOMs. I hope this helps! Good luck! :luck:

When did you submit your applications? Mine were in by the end of Sept. 05.
I scored just below the average for the MCAT last April (average was about 25) and have a 3.7 GPA.

A few tips when dealing with LECOM's admissions office:

They are very friendly people but very understaffed. Call no more than once a week to check on admissions. Sometimes the switchboard will be reluctant to transfer you to the DO admissions office so just ask to talk to Elaine Morse, head of admissions, and they won't ask any questions.

I was accepted to the school on December 30th, 2005. I requested a deferral immidiately and called a few weeks ago. Elaine Morse herself told me that my deferral request was granted but they haven't gotten around to sending me the letter yet. I still haven't received the letter. Anyways, you may have luck with them telling you stuff like this over the phone (like your waitlist status). Rule of thumb: do not call more than once a week and be exceedingly polite.

But since I did give up my spot for the class entering this Fall, I hope you get it! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Dr. Treck 1.

I have a few more questions for those of you who may consider yourselves knowledgable on the topic. As Is said before, I have sent in two LOIs and I have 2 more LORs that hopefully will be sent this comming week. I have even emailed my interviewers a time or two (I can't imagine that was totally necessary). I actually don't call the admissions offices of either of the 2 schools very often because it is very difficult to get a hold of many of their staff and because my wife has the cell phone with her all day because she makes many long distance calls a day for work. When I do call, (as Dr. Treck1 suggested) what should I ask and expect to hear? Is there anything else I may be able to do to improve my application outside of what I have already done? Anyone else I should try to talk to?

What month did you end up getting accepted?

I have been accepted to VCOM however, I live in Florida and would like to attend LECOM Bradenton ,but I'm on the wait list. So, how long do I wait to start making plans to move and get a roommate up in VA? I don't want to wait until the last minute and really screw myself if I don't get into LECOM. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Turns out calling is pretty lame. Doesn't matter though, I got some info for anyone interested. As of today at LECOM-B, there are about 75 alternates, the class is just over half full, and supposedly, the alternates' files will be reviewed again within a couple of week.

Anyone have waitlist info on Erie? 😕

It's a pain calling LECOM-PA. Rarely can I ever find anyone at their desk answering their phones. I've sent them several emails and called Elaine Morse a good number of times and they have yet to reply by phone or email. I might try again next week, I'll let you know if I get any new info.

Has anyone, or does anyone know anyone who was wailisted for the class of 2010 at either of the LECOMs and has now been moved off the waitlist and recieved official admission?

So, it would be OK to send in LORs not specifically asked for? I have a couple of these. One from an MD and one from a non-science professor.

Yes. One of the alternates I know asked that question specifically. Anything that you can do, including new LORs, to improve your application is a good thing. They will be pulling names from that list very soon. Go for it!
