I submitted my application back in November for UHCO, but my app. wasn't actually complete until the beginning of January due to some delays in my LOR.. but it's still been a little over a month, and I haven't heard from them.

I know UHCO is known to be a little slow during the admissions process, but the agonizing wait of trying to figure out whether I'll even GET an interview is killing me! I emailed an admissions staff today, Joyce, and she told me that my application is complete and waiting comittee review. She mentioned that there is no indication of a certain date when it will be reviewed. Does anyone know if that means that there are certain applications that have dates indicating when they are ready for review.. and mine is just not one of them? Anyone know anything further about what the hold up is?

Sorry for the rant.. I'm just venting a little!

I went through the same thing, I turned my app in oct. and i didnt get a call from them until late dec. I called them around november and they said they forgot to print out my application. I suggest you call them until you get an answer that they have reviewed your application. Just hang in till your interview then!

my application was complete as of january 20th, and debbie mcgee at uhco said that my application was scheduled for review february 8th. maybe this can give you somewhat of a timeline. i'm sure if you call they'll tell you what's going on! good luck!

My application was submitted online in October, and still lost. My application was fully completed by November, and it took me talking bad about the UH admissions process for me to recieve multiple phone calls in december. I was offered an interview and accepted in January. I know faculty and staff personally that work at UH, and a member of the staff said that due to changes in the admissions dept (new staff and what not), applications were getting lost, internet was down, mail not getting picked up, etc, etc. UH is very behind, hence why they extended the deadline for application submission. My advice to you (especially if this is your #1 school) is to stay on their tails. Don't just e-mail, CALL CALL CALL. That is the only way to get things done with them. UH is losing many applicants (like myself) who applied to other schools and did not want to turn down earlier acceptances to wait on them. So stay persistent because their are a lot of seats still available, and they will be interviewing until april, maybe even may. So keep calling, and if possible have a back up plan! Good Luck, I hope all turns out well! 🙂

At least you actually had the opportunity to speak with a human being! I was always left leaving messages for Ana Lopez. They lost my transcripts TWICE, and I applied early (app was complete in early Sept I think) and didn't get an interview offer until December. Not to mention after several failed attempts of emailing them and calling them prior to that, the interview call was the first they had contacted me (other than the "we have your application" letter every school sends). I also found it strange they seemed almost indignant when I called back to politely turn them down (I had been accepted at another school) and asked me to send in a letter of cancellation. They never sent a formal letter to me inviting me for an interview, it was just a phone message. Really impressive organizational skills right? But in all fairness, they are a great school from what I have heard, despite their poor admissions tactics.

my experiences with uhco have proved to be ok ... even though i turned my application in pretty late (january 20). my application was scheduled for review feb 8 (today), and i got an email this morninig saying that i had an interview scheduled in two weeks. all i know is that i'm glad this process is going somewhat smoothly. this is the only school i'm applying for ... i'd be going crazy if i had to wait til march or april to hear from anyone.

now i just need to make sure i don't butcher my interview. 🙂

I too have experienced lacking communication with UHCO. My e-mails that I sent several months ago to 2 different deans are still unanswered. When I interviewed with UHCO I seemed to get the impression that they were having (or just recently had) a lot of administrative and office staff turnover. For instance, I was told that Ana Lopez no longer works there. Their financial aid advisor just joined their staff. And one of the deans is apparently new to the job. Maybe all of the stuff going on in the office is causing a delay in their admissions process.

the dean has been the dean for a year and a half.

The financial aid officer was the same officer we had forever... he moved across campus for three years and now he's back. (so, he does know what he's doing)

The admissions dean has been there about a year but this is his first year doing it on his own (i believe)

The office staff in the admissions office has been notoriously terrible... if they're having turnover hopefully it can only be for the better.

Please don't judge the school by the admissions staff! If I had done that I would have gone to SCCO hands down. 🙂

I still don’t understand why things are done this way. An UH grad posted before that since UHCO was so good academically, they didn’t need to be so gracious towards the applicants, and that if someone really wanted to go to school here, he/she would be persistent. Something else that I have felt is that they want students to fend for themselves. There’s no Fran here to baby-sit you, as there’s at Nova.

This attitude also extends to their functions with the enrolled students (because the admissions office also serves as the Students Affairs Office). They have always come through for me, but a lot of times you are left to find the answer to your questions for yourself. I once heard that at SCO each student had a faculty advisor. Here you have to share Dr Shulman with the applicants and 400 other students.

Now, UHCO is an excellent school. I’ve seen that they work hard to make our program, our research, and our clinic the best one out there. I wonder why they haven’t realized (or why they don’t care) that there are a lot of people dissatisfied with the admissions office.
I bet they spend a lot of money in recruiting, and I don’t think Dr Shulman would intentionally have his staff provide services that are less than first-rate.

Since Dr Shulman is new it'll take some time.. I know Dr Jackson spent LOTS of time on recruiting and was VERY open to suggestions.
