Waiting on Interview from Stony

Hey all ,

I applied to around 7 schools and got into a handful. As of right now I have gotten into Buffalo, NYU, and UPENN (note I live in NY). I am putting my deposit in for UPENN today to hold a spot there. I am happy knowing I have a great school to go to, however I am still eagerly waiting to hear back from Stony Brook. They have had my application since early October and each time I call or try to contact them they say I just have to wait and see as my application is under review. Is it normal for interviews to be given out this late in the cycle? Should I just let go of any chance that I will be getting into my top choice?

Stats:
3.85 GPA
3.83 Science GPA
21 AA DAT with 24 on Bio, 22 Orgo, 21 GC
My application is loaded with extracurriculars, shadowing, research, and more.

Note: I did both a med program and a dental program at Stony + 2 of my cousins have graduated from there and put in a good word. I also have a few friends in Stony, one of which who is the president of his year and put in an internal recommendation for me. At this point, I am not sure what else I can do to show my interest or get an edge in the interview selection.

What are your thoughts? Do I have a chance or should I just move past it and accept the fact that I am going to PENN.

*For those wondering, I love Stony Brook because of the small class size (students and professors seem very close), its close to home and obviously the tuition. That and their great reputation.

Edit: Not sure if this matters but they have had my application "Under Review" since 10/02/15.

I guess you can call them up and show continued interest but it will make a negligible amount of difference. Schools have their own methods of selecting candidates which no one knows for sure. If its worth anything, I am a Stony Brook alumnus and I got rejected after interviewing.

You got into great schools btw and Penn definitely sounds like an awesome experience!

Yeah I guess so. It's just been my top choice every since I chose the field of dentistry so it sucks that putting all that work directed to one school seems to have not done anything. Do applications usually take this long to respond to? I am still waiting to hear back from Maryland and Stony. Maryland had my application since early September. Just surprising it takes so long but I honestly have no idea how long these things usually take.

Until JLT223 responded saying the same thing happened I was wondering if having all that internal pressure backfired on you.

Sometimes having people put in a good word for you can backfire. I'm not saying that happened but you never know. You never want to rub a committee the wrong way. This whole process is so random and I hope you hear back soon.

Yeah we will see what happens I guess. A lot of people in Stony Brook are saying the administration is kind of falling apart too so not sure if that has something to do with it either. I am glad I have somewhere good to go, but I am going to try and maintain optimistic. But for now, my deposit is in at UPENN. 🙂
