Waiting on Penn State

Hello there. I interviewed at Penn State back in mid October. I was told that their decisions usually come out 4-8 weeks after the interview, but I haven't heard from them. Is this long wait a bad sign for me? 🙁 How closely do they keep to the 4-8wk notification? 😕 Thanks for letting me know in advance~ & Good luck to those of you who are also waiting!

I interviewed in mid-October too. My letter was dated exactly six weeks after my interview and I got it several days later. They said if it's been eight weeks and you still haven't heard to give them a call. Good luck! Unfortunately I was put on post-interview hold by them. Too bad, I liked the school a lot. 🙁

I think my acceptance letter took about 6 weeks as well (i interviewed early october). Perhaps you should call if you don't hear anything by Christmas. Things always get lost in the mail 🙂

I'm interviewing tomorrow. Did anyone else notice that the air smells like chocolate? Excepting the brief break near the Reese's factory where the air smelled like peanut butter. I definitely can't come to medical school here or I'll end up looking like a house by the time I graduate. Every exam season will end up with me stuffing my face with chocolate. I'm half expecting to see oompa loompas at the Hershey Medical Center tomorrow.

You get use to the smell.... actually during the spring it smells more like fertilizer..... then you wont want any chocolate. 😛

The student I stayed with said he heard back a couple days later. Another said 2 weeks. I interviewed early november and haven't heard anything, so it appears that it's somewhat random. Has anyone called them?

I'm not sure what "being on hold" means. I didn't call to ask about the status of my application, but maybe if i had, i would've beeen told I was on hold? Regardless, I didn't receive any correspondence from PSU until the interview notification. I sent my secondaries in before September, but I'm also an August MCAT-er. I'm not sure how that affects timing. Good luck with everything!

Good luck tinnyfluffy!! I absolutely loved the school. It's the only program so far that has really impressed me (I was "eh" about most schools, and flat out disliked the others). My favorite part was Dr. Davis's speech (he didn't hold any punches when telling us what we were getting into as doctors), and the colonoscopy guy who moans if you puncture the bowel 😍 .

They did say that if it hits the 8-week-and-1-day mark, to definitely call them and find out what your results were. Based on my understanding, being on "hold" at psu means being on the waitlist. Someone asked about wait-list movement, but they were vague in their answer. They said it varies from year to year.

Ha. 🙂 i wouldn't say it means anything. perhaps it just means the committee hasn't met yet this week. you still have a great chance of getting in. i suppose if you really want to speculate, it could mean that they're debating over you heatedly ("that tinnyfluffy is a fine applicant! she absolutely should get in!" *table pounding ensues*), but even that's not a bad situation. worst case - you end up super high on their waiting list and you'll likely be one of the first people to get off it. that's not too shabby of a "worst case scenario" if you ask me. a flat out acceptance is the best case scenario. maybe you should start praying to all the gods you know (Yahweh, Jesus, Vishnu, Buddha, the porcelain god...), i lay offerings in front of all of them nightly "just in case" one of them has the whim to help me out. 😎

Haha lightnk102~ You are funny. 😛 Thanks for the encouragement there. If they are seriously debating about whether to accept me, I hope the ones who favor me have stronger voices!!! Although waitlist isn't the worst case, I really don't want to get onto another one. I've been waitlisted at 3 schools already! 😱
