I just recently sent in all my applications for PT schools. I have just received my first email from one of the schools in regards to my application. From what I gather from the email, it sounds like I have been waitlisted, but I was hoping you all could give me a second opinion?

here is the email:

"Thank you for your application. A significant number of qualified individuals have applied for admission to our DPT program this year making our admission decisions very difficult. We have carefully reviewed your application and at this time we are unable to come to a final decision. Your application will remain under consideration for acceptance until a final decision can be reached."

"Should you have any updates to your application, please submit them to PTCAS and notify us via e-mail. We will notify you as soon as a final determination has been made regarding your application. We appreciate your patience as we make these very important admissions decisions."

Is this for a school with rolling admissions? If that's the case admissions may want to wait for more applications to come in and scope the field a bit more before coming to a decision. I'm not 100% sure though... that's just my guess

Yes it is. I have 600+ hours in outpatient, and 20 hours in inpatient acute, neuro, and brain trauma. I also work as a PT tech, and have done research in the PT lab during undergrad. Should I email them and ask them what more I could do to strengthen my application?

I think it wouldn't hurt. I know I was waitlisted for a school and emailed them to see what else I could provide to make my application stand out a bit more. I submitted more hours and moved up on the waitlist and later on got accepted 🙂 I'm not saying that'll be your exact outcome, but it may show you're willing to do what you can to be accepted.

I received that same email about a month ago! I thought it was interesting and was not sure what to make of it. I have not emailed them since. I have three other interviews coming up but I may email them to see if there is anything else they need from me.

I emailed them and asked them if there was anything more from me, or anything I should try and do to improve my application, but I never heard back from them. Let me know if you have any luck.

@Mayomi did you ever hear back from them? I have not heard anything else.

What school was this for?

Had this problem last year. They never answered back until May with rejection. Hopefully you'll hear better news than me
I hope so too.. I spoke to the admissions coordinator via email. I asked about the waitlist, and if I can improve on my application to help make a decision. She told me she spoke to a committee member who said the biggest thing for me is to complete the academic update. I had 2 outstanding prereqs that I made Cs in that I just retook and made A's in, so I am hoping that was what they were waiting on. I haven't heard anything back yet, but I am unsure if that is because they are on holiday break or if they are still deciding.

After PTCAS completes an academic update, do they notify all programs or is it up to the applicant to email each institution? Suggestions?

The program does see which applicants complete academic updates. It is part of the PTCAS "dashboard" and the AU goes through a verification process similar to the original application.

I called today and asked the same question. I was told it takes about 7-10 business days for them to verify the updated transcripts. However, the programs can see the unofficial changes you made to your application immediately after you update them. She also said that most programs like to wait until the official update is verified before making a decision.
