Hi everyone- I just received notice that I'm an alternate for LECOM, one of my top choices. Disappointing but hey, theres still a chance right?

Anyways, when I called the admissions office to confirm my desire to be an alternate, she suggested that I continue to send in letters of recom b/c the committee periodically checks the files when slots open up (they don't have a ranking system.)

Besides that, should I send a letter reinforcing my desire to go to LECOM? And should I be calling often? She said they are interviewing until the last week of APril, so she won't forsee anything to be known then about open slots, so should I wait until then to start calling?

Send them a letter explaining that they are your top choice, then call in early May. Just be sure that you don't call them so much that you annoy them, but it is good to keep in touch so that they remember you.

Good luck!

Neeja, I am in your same position with LECOM. They are my first choice and I'm an alternate. I applied to their post bacc. program in Biomedical sciences and got in, so if worse comes to worse, I will do that for a year. I am waiting also though. Did you apply to the post bacc? You can send letters of rec if you want that wouldn't hurt.

write them a letter explaining to them that they are your top choice. be sure to cite specific reasons, it will impress them that you actually know about their school in particular. update them on any research you are doing. update them on any classes that may have been completed between your application and now. keep in touch with them, after your letter is sent, and acceptance will follow. 🙂
