Waitlist Whyyyy

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd like to add a little of my info into this discussion as well, since it seems relevant. I was interviewed at both LECOM-B and LECOM-E and was WL at both. My stats are well above their avgs, (MCAT perfectly balanced 30, cGPA 3.9, sGPA 3.8), I have well-rounded ECs (with >1000 hrs shadowing, >1000 hrs volunteering with local underserved pops, >2 years researching, and substantial leadership experiences outside of healthcare), I'm Phi Beta Kappa, annnnnnnnnd my LORs are from professors/mentors who I've known very well for roughly 2 years.

After receiving my WLs from the LECOMs, I was very confused. I thought I severely screwed up the interview and that terrified me, because I had already interviewed at an MD program and had another interview coming up. But then I remembered that, in the past, I'd always get such positive feedback from those I'd interviewed with. Never a negative thing. I think I come off confident and I had a thorough answer for every question thrown my way at the interviews.

It's a random crap shoot. I don't know if LECOM is really after fit, or maybe they practice yield protection (if that's even real..), but whatever it is- you're not alone haha
just looked at the acceptance thread. @DrPatriot was accepted to both of those schools, plus MSU, with 3.4/26.

"Strong enough" includes interviewing and social skills. Numbers aren't everything.
For me, like @Mad Jack said, it really did come down to interviewing, social skills and PS/essay writing.

I don't have the greatest stats but I worked 4 part time jobs at the same time during undergrad so I have excellent people skills (and time management lol). I really think you can't underestimate a person's ability to speak to others and maintain eye contact. I got feedback after my acceptance that my interviews were extremely strong and really made me stand out.

I also got feedback that my essays and especially PS were very well written so I guess that definitely helped me get the 10 II's and acceptances.

I think stats get you into the door for the II but it is up to you to show them that you are a complete individual who can care for, talk to and relate to future patients. If you can do that confidently and smoothly during the interview then you are set. Just my 2¢.

Not much to add than what's been stated already. Just wanted to point out that it really isn't over until you get the rejection. I have a classmate who was accepted the Friday before orientation (Monday).
