Need some advice from anyone who's been through this
I'm currently being waitlistd at the BU post bach program... is there anything I can do to sway the decision of the ad committeee..... ANYTHING??
please, anyone that can offer some advice, give me a holler, it would be much appreciated
thanks
I'll tell you some advice that I've been given.
Make friends with the receptionist. Oftentimes they have a lot more sway in who gets off the waitlist than you think. Also, call early in the day. Chances are, they'll be in a better mood. Make sure you get their name and refer to them by name when ending a call by saying "Thank you for your help, so-and-so." Of course, make sure they get your name too.
Like calbear15 mentioned, you should call to find out what your ranking is (if they do rank). Mention that you are still interested in the program and that you would be willing to fly out at a moment's notice should you be accepted. That might bump you up. I've heard of this happening.
Also, you may want to send an email to the program director or admissions staff handling the waitlist to let them know that you are still interested in the program. I did this and right after I did I received an email from the admissions staff that they had sent to everyone on the waitlist to gauge who was still interested and who wanted to be dropped from consideration.
Anyway, I've heard of applicants who try to send in additional information about themselves after their application is complete, extra LORs, etc. but I'm not sure how effective this is or whether adcoms are really happy about getting this sort of thing. Anyone know? Anyway, I don't know if I was helpful at all but it can't hurt to try and I know these things may sound like common sense, but sometimes we overlook the obvious
🙂 Good luck!
