I was just put on the waitlist of Stony Brook this morning and I am now wondering if I did anything wrong throughout the process... a couple month ago I was also waitlisted by Saint Louis University. What makes me confused is that I don't think I screwed up either of my interviews, and one of my interviewer even told me something like "you are very likely to get in"... Do you guys have any suggestions for this situation? I've got 8 interviews so far but the first two I heard back were both waitlist so I start to get a little worried...
Here is my stats: MCAT521, sGPA3.99, cGPA3.94. I do have a low CARS score (126) and I'm an international student. Are those maybe the factors that prevent me from getting in?
Thanks!

No, nothing's wrong. You got 8 II's.

Only factor is probably because you're an international student. This could also indirectly affect how you interview if you have a strong accent.

Thanks for the reply! I'm actually quite confident about my accent and ppl usually can't tell that I'm international lol.

You have 8 interviews as an international. You will be fine. Just do well on the upcoming interviews, and if you're concerned about interview skills, consider doing mock interviews. But waitlists aren't rejections so you'll get in this cycle and may be accepted off the waitlist.

There's a ton that goes into the process. You never know what causes the decisions.

Your interviewers really shouldn’t make statements like that, since they still must meet with the committee to ultimately decide.

I was told at one interview that I had the best interview of the day/was favorite candidate of the day and was WL. I was OOS so your residency is likely playing a bigger role here. But with the amount of II you have and no post-II rejections, you’re likely getting in somewhere.

You're most likely going to be fine, lots of good candidates get waitlisted post-interview. If there was something terribly wrong with the way you interviewed, you would have been rejected.

Also, a statement like that from an interviewer doesn't mean much. Most interviewers (at least at my school) don't even sit on the admissions committee, so while we get their feedback in written form, it's not like they're sitting there advocating for you during the meeting. And we also have to take into account the rest of your application, plus feedback from the other interviewers. So the fact that one interviewer really liked you doesn't necessarily mean much.

It’s pretty normal for international students to be put on WL in the first half of the cycle. I am also international, and my first offer from last cycle didn’t come until right before Christmas.

Chill out a bit, and if you are really worried, you can always get a mock interview from a friend or an advisor.
