Well, 5 interviews, 4 waitlists and waiting to hear from on. Does anyone know what the realistic chances are of getting off ONE (I only want/need ONE) of those lists??? Thanks for any input you can give me!

hey,
if you told us what schools you're waitlisted at, you might get some more specific information 🙂

with so little info its hard to say but 5 interviews is, after all, a pretty good sign...

Sorry...it was my first post...just getting the hang of it.
ANYWAY. I am waitlisted at: EVMS, Wayne St, Mich St., and Drexel...am a MI resident. Waiting to hear from SUNY Upstate.
My MCAT was 7V 9P 11B...Undergrad GPA 3.5, BCMP 3.2. Grad school GPA 4.0 for MS microbiology. 2nd time applying
I am trying to remain hopeful, but it gets harder as the days pass. Thanks y'all.

I would say that it is pretty hard to get in off of the waitlist at EVMS because they take few out of staters. Even though Drexel sees a lot of waitlist movement they put a ton of people on the waitlist. I'd say your best bet is Wayne St. because you're a resident and MSU could accept you too. I'd say with 4 watilists you should be fine. If you don't get in I would retake the MCAT and see if you can bring the verbal up or just reapply because it is obvious your numbers aren't inhibiting you if you have received 5 interviews.

You're a MI resident, waitlisted at some in-state schools and you are also waitlisted at Drexel, a good school, but one well known for a large amount of waitlist movement. I would say you stand an excellent chance of getting in. Have you written any update letters? Any letters letting the school you are still very interested in their program? A letter of intent to your top choice? Updating and showing continued interest are good ways to help you move up that waitlist. Good luck!

PS don't look at my signature

Yeah, e-spin, actually I was in the same position as you this time last year and I ended up not getting in. HOWEVER there were extenuating circumstances. Plus, I was an arrogant bastard last year; I didn't fully appreciate what it took and what it meant to be a doctor.

I think your chances are very high. For what that's worth.

hey man, do a search for all these schools, there were probably waitlist threads for all of them at some point last year.. for drexel, you might want to search for "MCPHU" as well since their name changed. I remember around the time I joined this site early last summer there were a few threads on their waitlist movement.

like the boy wonder says, start writing letters !!!! good luck 🙂

so i'm having the same problem. waitlisted at albany, UIC, and tulane, and waiting on one more reply. anybody have any ideas on my chances?

Probably 79.2%

The b1tch about waitlists is that there is no real way to know your chances. I think with four waitlists and one school yet to hear from, you stand a decent chance of getting in this year. Check the websites or interview packets from those schools, many will tell you when you can call to find out your place on the waitlist, and most schools should be able to tell you how many people have come off the list in recent years, giving you a better idea about what your chances are.

Good luck! 🙂

Wayne State has a high waitlist movement, Mich State on the other hand doesnt really have one. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll be fine. 🙂

I've mentioned this elsewhere on SDN, but EVMS is actually taking tons of out of state applicants this year, due to an unexpected budget cut in Virginia's FY '03 appropriation to the school. When I interviewed at EVMS, the dean of admissions said that the typical enrollment numbers for in-state vs. out-of-state are going to be reversed for this year! So it's a great time to be an out-of-stater applying to EVMS (just ask me!), and I REALLY think you've got a good shot. The other thing the EVMS dean said was that you shouldn't hesitate to call and find out what third of the waitlist you're in--he stressed that they don't mind your calling them because you've paid for it in your application fee!

I appreciate the responses. Am trying to stay hopeful, but I get the feeling that I wont hear anything til after May15 or whenever it is the those with mutiple acceptances are expected to pick one school. I just dont want to be the one who gets this call at the in August: "Uh this is such-and-such school wondering if you'd like to come here...oh did I mention we are into our first week of classes? thanks"
Anyway, I called EVMS and I am in the middle third. UGH. I am trying to be optimistic, but cautiously so. =)

you'll get in, relax. i'm accepted at MSU and won't be going there, along with my best friend... so, those are two more spots waiting for you 🙂
regards,

kreno

e-spin... i promise you'll get in somewhere!

have you considered sending, to one school, a letter of intent? that is, for example, send to michigan state (but first talk to the dean and ask if this actually will make a difference in that particular school's admissions committee's decision) a letter saying "blah blah blah, you're my top choice... blah blah, my d*ck* is largh, blah blah blah, if you accept me I'll withdrawl my applications from ALL other schools and promise to attend your school because, again, you're my top choice, blah blah blah i'll pay you lots of money, blah blah blah" hehe

well, besides the sarcasm, you get the point?

good luck 🙂

Yeah. Writing letters...this applying thing is a full-time f-ing job.
And I dont think they'll believe me if I tell them I have a large d*ck...because I am a girl  But I am not above showing a little cleavage to into a school somewhere  OMG...LOOK what applying to med school has made me resort to!!!! Thanks for the good wishes tho!

haha, e-spin i'm *so* sorry. you know, i thought you might be a girl right as i was lifting my finger off the mouse button when i clicked on the "submit reply" button. in any regard, you got the hint 🙂 and about the full-time job deal - i hear you. For me it's kinda a pain 'cuz like 6/7 places i interviewed at aren't rolling and therefore i don't know *ANYTHING* - i just pray 🙁 so you're luckier than me in that regard

kreno 🙂

This is so nerve-racking...

I've been placed on waitlist for both NJ schools. Does anyone know if the lists are moving? More importantly, what are the chances of being taken off the list?

Thanks!

hi all, i've been waitlisted at SUNY-Buffalo and SLU...NY resident...

any thoughts on my chances?

i think i heard buff has like 70% eventual accepts from the waitlist or is that completely wrong?

Yeah, I read that on another post about Buffalo...looks good, right? Best of luck

Hey spin--Did you happen to get the invite for the EVMS second-look weekend? I had called them the day before I got it and was told that I, too, am in the middle third there. Seems weird to invite waitlistees to the weekend, but maybe it's a sign that they are expecting lots n lots o movement? Whaddaya think?

I am waitlisted at NYU and Columbia - I am not sure what my chances are. I have two more decisions outstanding as well -- hope I make it, and that you guys do too. This waiting wears you down.
