So in the past 2 days, I found out I have been waitlisted at 2 programs I would like to interview at (Hopkins & UW). I have already sent e-mails to them and a couple of other programs I am interested in and haven't heard from yet expressing my interest in their programs. Does anyone know how common it is to actually get an interview off the waitlists? I did a search and couldn't find much info about this. Thanks!

Mistress S, I figure programs would not have waitlists if they did not think they would need to use them at least most of the time. I doubt everyone offered an interview will be able to do so, so it is good to be optimistic, but we cannot rely on getting those interviews so we must plan accordingly.

When I was waitlisted at Cornell, I promptly sent an e-mail stating my interest. I would interview there on very short notice because I love the program. I would totally recommend sending an e-mail stating your interest in the programs.

In addition, some residency directors can call programs on your behalf to get your application "flagged" and show even more interest in a program. I would not be surprised if your PD has done that in the past; however, I would limit this to one or two programs as PDs are very busy.

Best of luck! I am rooting for you!!!! 👍

Being removed from the waitlist is possible. I didn't know that they even had waitlists. I actually thought it was a joke and just a nice way of rejecting you until I was just removed off the waitlist for Nationwide Children's. The good thing is that I have an opportunity to interview there. The bad thing is that, I had already written them off and kept it moving and now I have to figure out a way to get there with my hectic schedule for next tuesday or the tuesday after. I personally didn't send an email or respond to the waitlist notification. Like I said, I considered it a rejection. So it is possible to get off without expressing your interest.

Good Luck to you!
