Hey guys, I was just wondering, if someone was applying to like 20 schools, and after paying that insane amount of money for the aadsas application and after registering for the DAT and paying a reasonably large amount there too, would there be any way you could possibly ask the universities to waive the fee for you. I mean its something like in the allopathic forum for example, were if you really are poor, you can actually ask them to waive it for you.

Okay, i feel like im repeating myself here...im gonna simplify this a little...

im broke...and i don't even have a quarter of those application fees....unless i make one hell of a cash advance on my credit card. is there like an application you can fill out? something like the Fee Reduction program by the aadsas (FRP)....i already filled that one out...

advice? please?

🙂 thanks

You can start by narrowing down the list of schools you will be applying to.

20 is WAY, WAY, WAY too many.

HTH.

Yes, 20 is too much. Especially is you are in financial difficulty. Depending on your academic performance, the average number of schools in which one applicant applies to and get an acceptance is around 8 schools. So you should try to limit the number of schools to max 12. If you do your research you should be able to see which schools will give you a better advantage of getting accepted than other schools.

You will just have to 'eliminate the fat'.

yeah,i guess that really is the only solution, thanks for the feedback...

Remember there are other things you'll have to pay for too...
you usually still have to pay the individual schools a secondary fee...then there are the trips for the interviews...you will have to pay for transportation and accommodations. Also after you decide on a school they usually want a huge nonrefundable deposit to hold your place. Nova's was $2000 total. I think BU's was $3000.

Just something to keep in mind...

dude, if I can reach the point were I have to pay a deposit, I'm one happy guy and I can say my money didn't go to waste.

But my GPA is 2.79 at the moment. Science around 2.50 and some change. Dat still haven't taken it, but you can guess how smart I am from my GPA 😀

so yeah, thats why I've got a crap load of dental schools on my list..🙂

All I want is for someone to just let me in the door, I can take it from there. I've got an extremely strong personality and I know I can slam dunk the interviews (if any..lol), but a lot of ppl said I shouldn't apply anyways, so you can probably guess what kind of advice i've been getting for the past couple of months or so.

any advice? lol

thanks

Well as you stated your gpa is not the greatest. So what that means is that you will just have to make sure that you do well on the DAT. You have to realize that getting into D-school is up to you . If it's really something that you want, go after it and above all else beleive in yourself! Don't listen to people that try and keep you from going after what you want. It's your life and you need to live it. In the end you alone will have to be satisfied with the choices and chances that you did or did not take to get you where you are in life.

Realize that doing well on the DAT, is something that is possible. The one thing it will require is your total committment to studying and preparing for it. No matter what else is going on in your life you have to be able to put it aside for the next month or so. You have to remind yourself during your long hours of study that a month and a half is the blink of an eye compared to the rest of your life. This next month basically will determine whether or not you get into D-school, remember that and get to studying! Good luck and I hope you achieve your goal.
