Do applicants generally waive eLORs? How detrimental is to your application if you do not?

Pretty sure most people wave the right to see them. If you feel uncomfortable with what might be written, you can ask your recommender if they can write you a good LOR or something similar. I don't know how schools treat it if you don't wave the right. I don't think you can delete them though once they've been submitted so I guess it wouldn't matter.

i waved my right to see them, mainly because I told my professors that to put them at ease, and that I had full trust in them.

I don't know how schools will judge you. They probably won't, but those writing your LOR's might.

It would seem to me that not waiving your rights to LORs would lessen their impact. An admin committee might see that your reference felt obligated to write something nice simply because you would be able to read what they chose to write. If you waived your rights, the adcom knows the reference would have been able to be completely honest in their opinions, knowing that you would never read what they wrote. Make sense? One of my WONDERFUL references, a pharmacist that I work with, allowed me to read her recommendation even though I waived my rights to do so. That is an awesome person!

I would always, always suggest waiving that right. This means you will have to put a lot of thought and trust in each reference.
