A couple of points to clear up. Winston-Salem has a very large hispanic population so it's not just white and black. Granted you will see a wider diversity of patients in a large city, but whites, blacks, and hispanics are a big part of the hospital community. So we might not get as much experience working with translators but we get our fair share. And if you think the hospital is dead on Sundays, go up a couple of floors. The main lobby area does seem a bit dead, but check out the patient areas. As of last night there were 2 open beds in the Children's hospital and less than 10 in the whole joint. The ED was backlogged big time. so don't worry, you'll see patients.
In my opinion, wake is an outstanding institution which actually feels like a medical school, and not a hospital which happens to have some students. That's a big difference I see when talking to some of my other friends in different schools. That being said, if you have your heart set on experiencing the big city, then we probably aren't right for you and you should think about giving up your interview spot for someone else who might want to take it. Of course, I think the big city might be overrated since I'm paying $800 monthly on a mortage for a 3 bedroom house that we bought...dog, lawn, picket fence, all that. I've paid that much with a roomate for a 2 bedroom apt. in other places. But I'm an old guy so I don't have some of the same needs.......
