Pretty much what the title says. Ive been accepted to UIC and I'm also on the wait list at Wake Forest. I just wanted to get some student perspective on the pros and cons of each school.

UIC. Bigger patient base. Plus, Im waitlisted at Wake too. 🙂

I'm going to give a big 👍 to UIC since you haven't gotten into Wake...

Im still holding out for wake b/c I interviewed there early, and since then got published. I know they take a lot off the waitlist (about 1/3 according to their admissions people).

Is Wake your top choice?

I interviewed at both schools, actually same situation as you accepted to UIC (going there)and waitlisted at Wake (withdrew), and the two schools are completely different. Do you prefer the urban chicago setting or the more rural Winston-Salem. Additionally Wake has a much smaller class, does this interest you? Cost of living is VERY different between the two, ie you could BUY a house at Wake. I think if you really look at it closely the decision will make itself pretty clear.

Wake could definitely sway me away from going to UIC, so I wanted to get others opinions about both schools. I guess the biggest issue is choosing between the urban and the not-so-urban. I was wondering in terms of recognition, which specialties are more noteworthy at Wake, and which at UIC? I interviewed with a pediatric cardiologist at Wake and all the med students talked him up as being nationally recognized for his work in the field. That was appealing since I'm really interested in cardiology.

Both schools definitely have some great faculty. Wake has the regenerative medicine center which is just insane as far as top level research goes. Dr. Atala is the head and he was the guy who first grew a bladder in culture, a lot of people think it only a matter of time before he wins the Nobel Prize. Don't be fooled by the not-so-urban, its not just a place for primary care. That being said UIC is a big instituion and you will have a lot of research opportunities there also, as well as the wealth of hospitals in the area.
