Hey,

I need some help!! I got an offer from both schools (Wakeforest and Unversity of British Columbia). I am having a hard time deciding which school i want to attend. The tuition is much cheaper at UBC. However, I did my undergrad there and I am kinda sick of the campus. In terms of reputation, UBC is one of the top schools in Canada. But I also heard many good things about Wakeforest. Any advice would be appreciated!! 🙂

UBC. Cheaper. Better rep. Vancouver is more cosmopolitan. Inland NC not so much. But you couldn't go wrong I suppose.

Why is this even a question, UBC.

Wake because it exudes awesomeness

UBC! Then you can come be my friend 🙂
Besides, how can you pass up the ocean/mountain combo? Not to mention... the HOCKEY!
But to be fair, I'm completely biased, having just been accepted at UBC myself and having never heard of Wakeforest before (not due to rep, but due to my nearly complete ignorance about US med schools!)

I have never seen UBC, but check out the Wake thread on here- we are all very friendly and would be happy to have another SDN'er! 😀

Plus- check out WFU on the "happiness index". Probably not the most scientific method of testing- but I personally chose Wake because of the great atmosphere here. The students all seem truly happy, balanced, and friendly towards one another.

Why don't you call the admissions office of each and get some contact info for current students in each place. Contact the students and get their impression. Also- check if either school is stonger/has research opportunities in whichever field(s) you are interested in.

Good luck deciding!

The biggest factor for you should be deciding where you want to work. Congrats on getting in...as a dual-citizen myself, I can tell you that there's some complex decision making on your end from here depending on which country you'd prefer to practice in, what fields you're leaning toward etc.

Here's my $.02 about it all: Canadian schools provide good broad training that's on probably on par with the top 1/4 of US schools, perfect if you want to be a Familydoc there....Working conditions in Canada favor primary care, the US favors specialists as the hospitals and programs are more cutting edge and specialized.

Don't forget that in order to get licensed or land a particular residency, there are various problems/hurdles trying to cross/recross the border in the opposite country depending on your field of choice and board certification so keep that in mind. That's rough and dirty, but hopefully gives you something to think about.
