Have heard Publix has few or no positions open in most areas. You'll get the run-around.
I've worked at Wal-Mart for the past few years.
Amazing computer system. Best I've ever seen. Greatly reduces the likelihood of errors.
The $4 program is controversial. Personally I like it, but it has pros and cons:
* Pros: Significantly fewer insurance hassles. Oftentimes, you can just switch the prescription to cash, avoiding insurance rejections altogether. Patients are very appreciative and will ask for your suggestions on whether their current drugs can be switched to something on the list.
* Cons: Volume went way up because of the $4 list. Pharmacy staff are often overworked. Other pharmacists look down on you because they feel Wal-Mart's $4 programs cheapens the profession; on several occasions, other pharmacists have bluntly complained to me about the $4 program, as if they were attacking me personally. The $4 program makes it hard for independent pharmacies to compete.
Compared to competitors, Wal-Mart tends to pay pretty well (at least as far as I can tell) but lacks in other ways. At some chains, the pharmacy *is* the store (e.g., CVS), but at Wal-Mart, you're just a sideshow. Different atmosphere.
Can't give flu shots. District managers often non-pharmacists. No MTM. Little more than lip service when it comes to your obligation to counsel (just like at almost every other chain).
On the other hand, you get a 30-minute lunch break.
Quite a few flaws, but pretty good overall. Would recommend working there. However, you should inspect the store you'll be working at; the individual people at your store will have more impact on your experience than anything I've described above.
