Hi everyone this is my first time applying and I've applied to Virginia-Maryland, Georgia, Purdue, Kansas State, Western, and Midwestern. I have my doubts about getting in this cycle just because, please don't laugh, I won't have a Bachelors. I just transferred out of community college so I can take upper division courses but thought it was worth a try since I have taken a few online upper divisions at other institutions. So I didn't cast a very wide net because of that reason and was thinking of applying to more schools next cycle. If my chances aren't great what could boost them for next cycle? I was thinking some mixture of large animal experience, research, and more extracurriculars?

Cumulative GPA: 4.0
science GPA: 4.0
last 45: 4.0

Any degrees achieved: Associates in Natural Sciences

GRE results: ----

Veterinary Experience:

- about 300 hours at a low-cost shelter/spay and neuter as a volunteer
- 1000 hours at a small animal/exotic general practice as a technician

Animal Experience:
- 200 hours at a rescue, also had equine and some swine (lots of fun)
- a little more than 200 hours at a shelter walking dogs and working with cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits

Research Experience:
- 30 hours on a very small project

Awards/scholarships:
- Scholarship for Academic Achievement
- President's List all 4 semesters at community college

Extracurriculars:
- 50 hours Children's Service assistant teacher at church
- 200 hours self-organized weekly group Bible study

Employment:
-
900 hours as a barista at a small shop
- 200 hours as a biology and chemistry tutor
- 100 hours as a TA

LORs:
-
1 from professor I TA'ed for, very confident on this one
- 2 from veterinarians, both from different hospitals I got experience at

Not having a bachelors is not usually an issue. I think only Davis requires a bachelors, the rest of the schools are cool with whatever as long as you’ve completed all the prereqs they require.

Your hours are good and your GPA is great, so you’ve got a great chance. I guess I am wondering if you’ve actually completed enough prereqs…if you just finished community college it seems like it would be difficult to have gotten all the upper division science classes done already or done by the spring semester, but if you have, then I think you have good chances.

Thank you for your input! Alot of them say that they accept w/o Bachelors but a Bachelors would make you a much more competitive applicant so that's why I was a nervous. My biochem and immunology were online but upper division at UCSD in my last year of community college. I only have my upper division genetics and physiology left which I'm registered to finish this fall and spring, respectively. I see you answering a lot of questions on the forums and want to thank you for always being willing to answer and help us out!

Be careful with UCSD online biochem- I’ve seen some schools take it but some don’t it varies so contact every school specifically to make sure it covers their requirements 🙂

This +1.

At the same time, wishing you the very best of success no matter what happens next. 🙂
