Volunteering Experience:
  • 283 hours volunteering as a dental assistant at a general dentist's practice
  • 168 Hours in DOROT's Kosher Meals at Home Program where I called elderly clients aged 60-100 weekly for meal orders and noted mental health concerns.
  • 22 hours thus far as a mentor at my college for freshman pre-health students
  • 9 hours at a Ukrainian Unissued Diploma's Event honoring students killed in the Ukrainian-Russian war
  • 220 Hours as a scholar peer leader/student mentor for my honors program: I mentored freshman students from the program and assisted with other peer leaders to create in-person events and to contribute to our monthly newsletter. I also interviewed high school students applying to our honors program.
  • 90 hours as a teaching assistant for two separate courses (organic chemistry and biochemistry).
  • 13 hours volunteering at COVID-19 plasma antibody drives hosted by my local hospital.
  • 38 Hours at my local hospital's C.A.R.E. program where I conversed with geriatric patients and did arts+crafts with them.

  • 170 Hours as a research assistant: I create nanocages for my lab and am currently working on a project regarding tweaking nanocage size and shape to improve the efficiency of their movement. No publications and the experience was on pause as I was a teaching assistant for my P.I.'s course, but I'm returning this summer.
Other Extracurriculars:
  • 300 Hours as the president of the Art for Healing Club which I founded at my college. Hosted events promoting destressing through drawing, some events were collaborations with other clubs to experience culture including Ukrainian Club, Japanese Anime Club, etc.
  • 90 Hours as the Social Media Director for my pre-health office's mentoring initiative. I was one of 5 members on the board.
  • 12 hours: Bridge to Dentistry summer program hosted by Harvard Dental School: academic enrichment where I met with the program once a week and we learned about the application process.
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? N/A

Debating on adding Boston U and Virginia Commonwealth. I'm thinking of Boston U over Virginia but please let me know what you think + if I should add or remove any schools. My goal is to stay on the east cost preferably in NYS or around NYS.

ok great
you have awesome stats and ECs
how come no harvard?
how come you have not interacted with any d schools besides that harvard program?

I wanted to go to NYU's impressions day recently but I had a work shift that I could not call out of at the time. As for the other schools they are quite far in proximity to my home and I did not have the means to travel to those schools on those days. No Harvard because I didn't fulfill their pre-reqs (microbio, etc).

ok cool

2 reaches 3 in range 2 safeties is not bad considering your app
you could add vcu or maryland as another in-range
you could add boston or tufts as another safety
just depends on how sure you want to be that you get in, how much you can afford to spend on apps, and how confident you are in interviewing...

Great job. Your non-clinical volunteering (especially DOROT's Kosher Meals at Home Program) outshines a number of the premeds who are posting their WAMC profiles. Are you strongly interested in geriatric dentistry?

I presume staying in-state is desirable, or at least within the I-95 northeast corridor. (I mean I would be shocked if you wanted to be in the Touro New Mexico class). I think you can call your shot within the Northeast for sure.

Thank you for the input, that experience with DOROT was so fruitful. I actually interacted with a few holocaust survivors! I am primarily interested in general dentistry and potentially oral surgery. I think it so happens that the majority of the opportunities involve geriatric clients but I do not mind geriatric dentistry. And yeah for touro i do not want to do the new mexico class, I chose ny class only lol.

Do you recommend going for boston U? I have taken Macsak's comment and have decided to apply to VCU, but I'm currently between temple or bostonU

Hi Macsak!

I took your advice and am planning to add Maryland as an additional school to my already submitted app. What do you think about UPittsburgh? Would it be considered a safety or in range? I would have loved to apply to Tufts but one of my english courses is considered AP credit and is not accepted by them 🙁

pittsburgh is in range
temple or boston would be safeties

Thanks for the input, any additional thoughts on UConn?
any public that seems to take NY peeps is good for you
check to see if any are P/F and give you instate after first year...

Heck, if you're thinking Pittsburgh, add CWRU. (You said staying near NY state and the city earlier so that's why I didn't suggest them.)

Thank you for the input I'll look into CWRU. I also just found out I actually can apply to Harvard, so I am thinking of using my connection via their bridge to dentistry program as a means to apply. Just am wondering if its even worth it with my stats and as an OOS resident?

worth it if you can get scholarships/grants...

Hello everyone! I have decided to update my WAMC with my interviewed and accepted schools. I am happy to answer pre-dental questions regarding interviewing and pre-reqs/extracurriculars. Best of luck!

wow
impressive
congrats!

Out of those options im considering stony. Buffalo is quite far from my area and the snow up there is horrific. NYU simply because my family wants me close in the city. Would you say stony over penn for mainly cheaper tuition and medical curriculum crossover?

cheaper
and safer...

Curious why remove Touro? I applied there and although waiting I was wondering is that not a good school?

2-3 years ago, in the spring, after most people already had commitments to other schools, touro announced a doubling of their class size (adding the new mexico cohort)
this resulted in them accepting students they had not even interviewed to fill the additional seats
the facilities/faculty/staff were organized for the original class size, then they suddenly doubled it 3-5 months before school started (yes, i am aware that they were likely planning well before the announcement)
OP has incredible stats and ECs, and IMO should not have to consider dealing with this school, because they will have better options (and my thoughts were confirmed by their successful cycle)
others may still apply and interview and matriculate given their own particular situation...
