3. *State Residency*: New York

6. *Clinical Experience*: ~360 CRC (very high patient-facing role -> projected hours over 2000), ~150 hours clinical volunteer (+projected). No listed hours, but talked about in my personal statement and other impactful experiences - my role as a caretaker for a sibling.
7. *Research*: ~2500 hours bench, 1 talk, poster, and honors thesis. 400 hours clinical research, one abstract recently accepted for oral presentation this summer in my specialty of interest, two abstracts just submitted, manuscripts in progress.
8. *Shadowing*: ~100 hours across different specialties and hospital systems in NYC.

12. *Hobbies*: Running (integrated into a story of how fitness was considered to be a luxury growing up. Helping volunteer and lead a 5k later this year for a subset of patients I feel strongly connected to.)
13. *Relevant honors & awards*: including a bunch of activity-related awards, don’t want to include for anonymity. I also won major scholarships as well but idrk how to include that in my primary or if I even should.

Non-trad, 2 gap years

I’m first-gen and grew up low SES (not FAP, 2k over the threshold bc of my dad who doesn’t live with us lol…) and part of a pipeline program in my city that connected underserved students to elite high school institutions, and was also in a pipeline program at one of the target medical schools I’m applying to. I talk a lot about these identities in my app, including my caretaker role growing up and my commitment to a specific specialty/patient population that aligns with my story, as well as my ambitions this upcoming year to lead research on a project of interest that I develop throughout my entire story. Sorry if that’s vague but want to be anonymous

Here’s my list so far. Welcoming feedback and advice because I know my stats are kinda average/low and I’m being ambitious here:

Are you fluent in Spanish? Some schools screen at 150 hours of non clinical volunteering (excluding teaching/mentoring) and at top tier schools you will be competing with applicants who have many hundreds or thousands of hour each of clinical and non clinical hours.

Yes I am. I need to go back and look at my hours I kinda just estimated here, but good to know. I didn’t know being a volunteer tutor doesn’t count as non-clinical volunteering.
