Hi all! I'm an Alabama resident and graduated from college last year. I've completed 20 hours of post-bacc classes these past two semesters and made a 4.0.
Overall cGPA: 3.2
Science GPA: 3.0
MCAT: 504
ER Medical Scribe for 3 years, about 3500 hours
Urgent Care Scribe for 1 year, about 1000 hours
Ophthalmic Technician for 8 months, about 1000 hours
1.5 years of research experience, but no publications
Volunteered for 2 years with an organization at my university that tutored students at the Children's Hospital nearby and was the Vice President of the organization the second year
Honors College Mentor during my sophomore year
Good LOR's
Also first generation college student coming from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background (not sure if that makes much difference)
Outside of my experience working, I have not formally shadowed any physicians, but I have worked very closely with them as a scribe and technician so I'm not sure if that will be a problem?
I know my biggest concern is my GPA, but I do have a pretty good upward trend from the end of my junior year and I've done well in my post-bacc classes. My biggest question is if I should go ahead and apply with my current MCAT or retake in a couple months and apply in August or September if I score higher? And of course I plan on only applying to DO schools. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
