  1. cGPA: 3.46, sGPA: 3.1
  2. MCAT: 515
  3. SC resident but have ties to GA
  4. Clinical experience: Over 1000 hours as a patient care tech in a cardiac intermediate unit at a hospital in SC.
  5. Research experience and productivity: Not much research experience. I assisted a PhD student my sophomore year of college doing research on alternatives to antibiotic use in poultry due to its effects on humans however I had no publications. I did write a literature review for the topic but nothing directly with the research.
  6. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: 16 Hours shadowing an Orthopedic surgeon (M.D.) and 16 hours shadowing an orthopedic PA in clinic
  7. Non-clinical volunteering: Spent a year as a mentor for a middle schooler in my county through a mentor program my university had. In addition, I served as the events coordinator and social media person for a non-profit that was created after my best friend's father passed from a rare form of brain cancer. The non-profit held 5ks and other events to raise money and awareness for brain cancer research.
  8. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc): Did 4 years of Army ROTC in college and commissioned as an infantry officer in the National Guard. Also helped tutor students who wanted to join the military and prepared them for the ASVAB.
  9. Relevant honors or awards: Deans list, distinguished military graduate, and a few awards from the military.
  10. First generation college student
My current list of schools is mostly just state schools and DO but just wanted people's advice
1. USC- greenville
2. USC- columbia
3. MUSC
4. PCOM Georgia
5. PCOM South Georgia

Are you low SES? Did you grow up in Georgia or South Carolina?

You need service orientation activities: food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation. You may get some slack being in ROTC, but tutoring/teaching and fundraising don't count in this bucket. If you don't have 150 hours when you submit your application, you may be screened out by most schools.

Yes, I am low SES. And I grew up in NC until I was 18 and left for college but my parents moved to SC while I was in college and I went to college in GA and am in the GA National Guard. So honestly I don’t really know which state i’m “tied” to. I did volunteer regularly at my college’s food pantry, would this count as a service orientation activity?

Yes, how many hours were you doing your college food pantry? What were you doing? How long ago has it been?

I presume you have to be a resident of Georgia to be in their National Guard, yes? I wouldn't know. Check the domicility rules for the Georgia universities (registrar offices) attached to the medical schools of interest.
