Hi, I am a junior thinking of applying to med school. Do I have a decent chance at an MD school? Waiting to apply to DO after a gap year if needed.

You should get some more non-clinical volunteering before applying, to avoid getting screened out. I believe the threshold is around 150 hours of service orientation - so working with homeless shelters, food banks, etc.

Is there a reason you want to apply without a gap year? Also, a school list would be helpful 🙂

Are you still having a downward trend in your GPA? There's a lot missing here.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I just want to shoot my shot and see what happens without a gap year. My gpa def still has a downwards trend overall up until this semester.
Is it worth applying if I can bring up my non clinical volunteer hours to 100 by the time I apply? The school list I have is mostly: UNC, ECU, Wake Forest, which are all instate, have not made a clear out of state list yet.

You need more face-to-face service than your crisis hotline experience.

Your profile has a ton of teaching experience. Why don't you want to be a teacher or go for an academic direction like an MS or PhD?

What do your prehealth advisors suggest? Why is medicine your purpose? How do all of your activities tie together? How much did your GPA decrease because of your accident, and why didn't you take a leave?

Are you saying that it is not even worth applying to medical school with my stats?

You only have 50 hours of non clinical volunteering and many schools screen at 150 hours. You should accumulate 100+ hours in an activity such as food bank, homeless shelter, etc. before you submit your application. I suggest these schools if you have 150 hours of non clinical volunteering:
UNC
East Carolina
Wake Forest
Methodist (when it opens)
Belmont
NOVA MD
USF Morsani
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
TCU
Alice Walton
Roseman
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
Ponce (St. Louis)
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Hackensack
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
