Hi everyone!
I am planning to apply this cycle to MD and would like some input on my application strength and school list. Thanks!
  1. cGPA/sGPA: 3.68/3.73, Masters of Science 4.0
  2. MCAT score: 505
  3. State of residence: Texas (but completed Masters of Science in Microbiology in Louisana)
  4. URM: Hispanic (Mexican) female
  5. Undergraduate institution: Private, St. Edwards University
  6. Clinical experience:
    1. ER (20 hrs)
    2. Another hospital with the army (20 hrs)
  7. Research experience/Pubs/Presentations:
    1. research assistant (100 hr)
  8. Shadowing: various specialties (60 hr)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering:
    1. Marathons (5 hrs)
    2. Surgery waiting room volunteer at county hospital (100 hr)
  10. Leadership/Honors/Awards:
    1. President list
    2. Certificate of Recognition for Community Service (20 hr)
    3. National Family Military Association Scholarship
    4. Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program
    5. Dean’s Honorable Mention
    6. Dean’s List List for Outstanding Academic Achievement

    1. uninvolved in clubs, went to multiple undergrads because I was an army wife, and moved. Worked during this time as a tutor for 8 months.
    2. worked as a sales associate and cashier from 2015-2019 (during HS and all through my undergrad)
    3. will begin scribing in June
    4. former ESL student
Looking for any advice on a school list, as I am a first time applicant and first gen student so I do not have much guidance.

It should go without saying, network with all the Texas schools. Connect through SNMA and LMSA student leaders on each campus. Find out if there are military support clubs and ask the military docs you may still know through your husband about their thoughts about your chances and choices for schools. Connect with TMDSAS often with their webinars (live or recorded). UTRGV should have their eyes on you if you proactively reach out to them if they are your closest school from your hometown. And your military background plus Mexican background will make you a desirable candidate.
 
I think that you will get in MD and can probably include the schools listed above and aim a bit higher due to military service.. apply DO as a backup due to the MCAT but I don’t see you not getting in MD if you apply broadly
