Hi everyone! I'm a current junior planning on applying in this upcoming cycle. I was hoping to get some help in tailoring a school list to apply to, especially because I'm afraid my list is top-heavy right now and that it's too long.
  1. cGPA: 3.94 sGPA: 3.92. Consistent throughout all of college.
  2. MCAT: 523 (132/130/131/130)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): Ohio. Some ties to NY, PA, and TX.
  4. Ethnicity and/or race: Indian Male
  5. Undergraduate institution or category: T20 undergrad school (not HYPSM), Biomedical Engineering Major
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer): 400 hours as an EMT on-campus.
  7. Research experience and productivity: 800 hours of research in a translational research lab. No publications or presentations, luck has just not gone my way.
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: 25 hours PCP, 25 hours Pulmonology, 10 hours ER.
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: 150 hours tutoring peers on-campus. 70 hours tutoring disadvantaged high school students (online).
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc): Worked 400 hours at an education non-profit dedicated towards preparing middle school and high school students for success in the future. Working as an intern in the MedDevices field this summer (500 hours projected). Leadership positions in a few clubs on campus. A bunch of engineering projects completed (as parts of classes) to meet medical needs, with ~100-150 hours towards each project. 100 hours as a campus tour guide.
Current school list:
  1. Ohio State
  2. Case Western
  3. Cincinnati
  4. Toledo
  5. NEOMED
  6. Wright State
  7. Michigan
  8. Virginia

You have a great shot. My concern is you have a ton of tutoring/teaching and very little listed as community service: food pantries, shelters, Habitat for Humanity stuff.
Do you think volunteering at a food bank or something similar this summer would help with that? I could probably get some 50-100 hours in by the end of the summer easily. My one concern is the fact that it's done so late and in such a short period of time that it wouldn't be looked upon favorably.

I assume by UCSB you meant UCSF. I would include WUSTL as well and Carle over Illinois since they have an engineering focus and may offer a merit scholarship. Illinois has quite high OOS tuition.

Look closely at Carle and skip regular U of IL. Tuition for oos is truly punitive.
