Hi all,

I got my MCAT score back today and it was a bit of a shock. Scored a 506 (127/123/130/126), which was a good chunk lower than my practice tests. I just want to receive some input about my school list. I am an Idaho resident.

506 mcat

3.95 GPA, 3.85 sGPA

Experiences (not worried about this as much because I think I have a good amount, so I will just include a few activities that i did. Mainly want to consider fit based on gpa + mcat)

I know that my 123 on cars is a red flag. Just trying to make the best of my situation. I’d appreciate thoughts on schools to take off or schools to add.

Welcome to the forums.

Two programs that must be on your list: UWashington (WWAMI agreement) and ICOM (in-state DO program). Yeah, UW might seem like a stretch because of the MCAT, but mission agreement with WWAMI needs to be addressed. I have to see if you fall within the lower quartile compared to the last known stats of an incoming class, but they are your technical in-state option for MD. Is there a reason why ICOM is not on the list?

I am personally just not interested in staying around the Idaho area unless I get into Washington. I dont have much interest in icom.

How many hours of physician shadowing do you have?
How many hours of clinical volunteering/employment with patient contact do you have?
What is the breakdown by hours of your non clinical volunteering?

100+ physician shadowing
800+ clinical
750+ non clinical volunteering
900+ research
700+ TA/other leadership

I suggest these schools with your stats:
U Washington
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
Drexel
Temple
Penn State
George Washington
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
Methodist (when it opens)
NOVA MD
Belmont
Alice Walton
Roseman
TCU
Creighton
Ponce (St Louis)
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Tulane
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
You have a good DO list.

I appreciate the insight! The only two I have questions about are creighton and George Washington. I’m interested in both schools, but based on msar data, I’m not sure I would be competitive with my mcat. Is there something I’m unaware of that would give me a decent chance at those schools?

What is the breakdown by hours of each of your non clinical activities?
