1. 4.0 sGPA and 3.98 cGPA
2. 514 (131/124/131/128). How lethal is 124 cars? I don’t want to retake unless necessary + FL avg was 126 for cars so not sure if I’d improve.
3. VA resident
4. white ORM
5. Attended a public low-tier rural state school. B.S., Biochemistry, Spanish minor. Applying as a senior.
6. 375 hospital volunteer hours at two hospitals: 100 at a rural hospital and 250 at the another, larger hospital.
7. 1500 research hours in an immunology lab. Of this came 2 publications and 5 posters (4 regional posters and 1 national [abstract published too)). Won best biomedical science poster at my local university symposium ($500 award [maybe ~30 students?]).
8. 50 hours. (10 hrs general surgery; 10 hrs family medicine; 30 hrs two different emergency medicine doctors).
9. 50 at a food bank and 100 at a local homeless shelter. I did also did have an interesting experience of helping clean up glacier flooding (~25 hours) — (not sure if worth including).
10. I tutored introductory science courses (150 hrs). I TA’ed gen chem I and orgo 1/2 (200 hrs); was vice-president for a large (~50 students) Spanish club (~100 hrs) for two semesters.
11.
  • Dean’s list all semesters.
  • two research awards from my university: a $3000 award and a $1600 award (both involved proposing and writing out a project description + carrying out the research).
    • Also got a $500 scholarship from my department for being an “outstanding student.”
    • also got a $200 department travel award for a conference
  • I also received a $5000 award for summer biomedical research.
  • I also participated in a summer undergraduate research fellowship with full room + board covered ($6500 stipend included).
  • Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
  • Graduating with honors within my university's honors program (involved writing an undergraduate thesis).
12. Strong ties to SC and WV. Thinking about writing everything to be more rural-focused as this is where I've spent most of my life.

What are your ties to South Carolina? East Carolina does not admit non residents. You have several other state public schools on your list that admit few non residents with no connection to the state.

Missed that!

I was born in SC and lived there for well over a decade.

Which other schools would you recommend cutting/adding? When is it not worth it to apply to as an OOS?

What of CARS? Is there anything inherent in the application I should work on or is it just a matter of writing? Thanks!

If you carry a 4.0 GPA, I presume you can handle reading obscure and jargon-filled academic English when you aren't under time pressure. (I'd have a look at your transcript...)
