Hi everyone! Here are my stats for consideration
521/3.91/URM (Hispanic) WA resident

I have about twenty-five schools on my list, but really hope to get into either Washington State University (MD), University of Washington (MD), or Pacific Northwest School of Medicine (DO). I'm worried about even applying this year as I don't know if I have enough clinical exposure. I've taken a lot from my experiences which have pushed me onto this path, but still worried (probably neuroticism, lol). Thank you for your help!

  1. cGPA: 3.91 sGPA: 3.95
  2. 521 MCAT (131/129/130/131)
  3. Washington state
  4. Hispanic and Norwegian
  5. Smaller state university in Washington, not highly ranked
  6. Psychiatric inpatient facility volunteer (3 years, 500 hours), psychiatric outpatient intern (1 quarter, 250 hours), pediatric ER volutneer (1 year, 75 hours)
  7. Organic chemistry research (1 year, no pubs or presentations, 250 hours), psychology research (1 year, 500 hours, 1 grant and regional award, no pubs, 3 presentations.)
  8. 50 hours psychiatry shadowing
  9. Food bank volunteer (3 years, 600 hours), home schooling autistic sister (4 years, 2000 hours, she graduates this spring!)
  10. Chemistry TA (1 quarter, 75 hours), physics tutor (1 quarter, 100 hours), chemistry club treasurer (1 year), psychology club secretary (1 year)
  11. Outstanding student psychology department (2024), Research grant from psychology department (2021)
  12. Snowboarded a decent amount in college, primary hobby during the winter, love reading books (predominantly horror) if these would be good things to include.
Thank you again!

What is your purpose as a physician?
I've predominantly worked with impoverished groups, many of which suffer from debilitating mental illness. Ever since I've pursued this path, which began during a therapy internship, I've wanted to work as a healthcare provider to work with these groups as psychology, medicine, and SES intermingle more and more and these individuals continually feel as if they're lacking in one of these facets. As a physician, I feel I can best address all of these components.

Just my perception, you're probably okay with your clinical exposure, but more variety wouldn't hurt. You don't want to present a profile that suggests you would be better suited pursuing a PsyD. You have lots of psych hours in a manner that suggests you won't like the other hospital rotations you would have to do.
