WAMC/ Am I out of luck?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
DPM just isn't in my interest at all, would rather pursue a PhD in Neuro if DO schools are also out of luck
Had a very similar undergrad experience as you. very similar in trend academically as well too. I would retake the MCAT.... and I think if you improve greatly you have a good shot at MD and definitely DO if you can convey your experiences well in your app.

look into an IRTA through the NIH... youll have time to study for your MCAT again and gain incredible research experiences that med schools will love.

PhD in neuro? How many of those programs have you applied to.

Unless you really shape up that MCAT, your chances are small. You have to get over 500 for sure for DO. Your GPA also means that you have to show how your goals for into a school's mission, so if your backup is to do a PhD in neurobiology but want to do DO, I need to figure out how you would make that work.

If you are at UIC, you have access to advisors and admissions staff for the medical school. What are they telling you?

You could receive interviews at some DO schools with your stats and I suggest all these:
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-AR
WCU-COM
UIWSOM
BCOM
ICOM
VCOM (all 4 schools)
LUCOM
LMU-DCOM
WVSOM
UP-KYCOM
LECOM (Erie, Elmira, Seton Hill)
Noorda-COM
KansasCOM (new school)
Many of these schools have MCAT medians in the 498 to 502 range so you could receive interviews with your 496. You do have good ECs and your GPA is fine for DO schools. Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July.

in response to the PhD question, I know the admissions at my undergrad and have been offered a spot in their program.

In regards to advisors, they are telling me to apply both DO and SMP

Do you have a DO list? Have you done any outreach?

How set are you about the research program then?
no list hence why I am here, have begun to do some (really banking on DO LOR), If I do not get into either do/smp, I am set

So are you okay with not becoming a doctor and doing a neuroscience grad program? You should be able to get into an SMP... but if you have a seat in UIC's neuro graduate program already....how committed are you to becoming a physician?? Do you for-see yourself taking these extra steps to retake the MCAT, complete a year long SMP, gather materials and apply or do you see yourself more in UIC's neuro grad program (which is quite good btw...I do in-depth neuro research myself and UIC is one of my top choices for MS bc of it).

Not trying to be negative or anything just a genuine question you should ask yourself if you're in doubt.

I think just the trauma of today's score release got to me, if I am able to get into a DO school or SMP I am commited

Then go for it!! I know if you just got your score back you're not even thinking about a retake....but.... if you decided to and absolutely killed it (510 or above) that will tell adcoms that you worked very hard and identified your downfalls to become successful on the exam and you will probably see multiple acceptances DO and MD with your GPA and extracurriculars etc.

Somethin to think about, and I am not expert, but from experience don't think your journey has ended yet... keep going!

thank you! I am going to try to apply to the schools @Faha linked along with SMP's first and then will go from there
