Hello, I am fairly new to the forums and was hoping to receive some feedback for the upcoming cycle. My main concerns are my low volunteering hours. Will this get me auto screened from schools? Also have been reluctant to add schools requiring casper/preview cause I honestly just don't want to take them. Am I shooting myself in the foot?
  1. 4.0 cGPA and sGPA
  2. 523 (130/129/132/132)
  3. first generation Hispanic/Latino male.
  4. Undergrad: not prestigious
  5. Non-clinical paid: 1500 hours (3 years) as a tutor and 150 hours as a supplemental instructor (very similar to tutoring except made formal lesson plans and had larger group sessions).
  6. Paid clinical: ER scribe for ~1000 hours. Clinical Volunteering: Interpreter at clinic which sees mostly undocumented patients ~200 hours.
  7. ~1500 hours in research, 2 pubs (2nd and 3rd author), 6 poster presentations ( 1st place at regional conference), 3 grants (received $15,000 in funding).
  8. ~65 hours of shadowing, 40 hr IM/family, 10 hr OBGYN, 10 hr rheumatology, 5 hr infectious disease.
  9. ~75 hours non-clinical volunteer at food bank.
  10. Was a lead interpreter at the clinic I volunteered at and held monthly classes for incoming volunteers.
I am currently a senior and will be graduating in the fall of 2025.

Welcome to the forums.

You should be able to call your shot once you get your service orientation hours up to 250 minimum for the brand-name schools. Right now you only list 75 hours at a food bank, which can put your application at risk of getting screened out (you need at least 150 for most schools).

What is your purpose as a physician, and what is your mission fit? Nothing is obvious from the profile above about what that would be, and since we aren't supposed to use race/ethnicity in admissions decisions (though you can write all you want about it to signal to us), I would like more to persuade me to interview you.

Nevada. Yes, I am fluent in Spanish.
I suggest these schools with your stats:
Your 2 Nevada state public schools
Mayo (Arizona)
Colorado
UCSF
Stanford
Washington University (in St. Louis)
Northwestern
U Chicago
U Michigan
Case Western
Vanderbilt
Miami
USF Morsani
Emory
Duke
U Virginia
Johns Hopkins (free tuition)
UPenn
Pittsburgh
Hofstra
Einstein (free tuition)
Mount Sinai
NYU (free tuition)
Columbia
Cornell
Dartmouth
Brown
Harvard
Yale
Boston University
Tufts

Keep in mind, your metrics make you a good candidate for WashU, but they also do a recorded video interview instead of Casper/PREview.

Make sure you connect with LMSA chapters at the schools on your list.
