Hello everyone. I would greatly appreciate any help in creating a DO school list for the upcoming 2016-2017 cycle. I am a NY resident who recently graduated with a 3.52cgpa (3.45sgpa) and plan on taking the MCAT on July 8th. I plan on (hoping) to score 508+.
I have a strong upward trend in my gpa starting junior year with 3.8+ (ended the last semester with a 4.0!). I have two C+ from my freshmen and sophomore year (chemistry and cell biology) but hopefully I have shown I am capable of rigorous courses by getting A's in other challenging courses.
MCAT: I understand that it's hard to give advice or a list of schools without a score but I am working towards scoring a 508+. Any advice or school list in that ballpark would be great!

Extracurricular:
-300+ hours volunteering in emergency department, cardiology unit, post-anesthesia unit
-50+ hours volunteering in soup kitchen
-E-board member of club on campus involved in fundraising money for schools in other country and part of another organization dedicated to community service
-Part-time job as a lab assistant for 3 years (not research-related)
-Research at a psychology lab with no publication (1 year with a pretty strong LOR)
-TA for a biology class
-Strong letters from various professors (writing, science, history) and also a letter from founder of the club
-Shadowed ~45 hours with various physicians (Internist, Radiologist, Anesthesiologist) and received a LOR from a DO physician

Current List (I plan on applying to 15+)
NYCOM
TOURO-NY
LECOM
PCOM

If someone could provide me with a quick basic timeline of deadlines for the process I would greatly appreciate it too!

I have been a longtime lurker of this forum and have seen great advice and got my share of laughs too. I have no idea what my knowledge of the medical school process would be like without this forum. I am still confused in some areas of the process but thank you everyone!

If you score at least 505 you are competitive for all DO schools so just add any schools you are interested in to reach that 15+ number. Have your application ready to go when you receive your MCAT score in August and submit all your secondaries before the end of September. If you score less than 505 let us know and we can give you a more appropriate list. If you score at least 508 you have a 50% chance for a MD acceptance so if you do so you could consider schools such as all 4 SUNY's, CUNY, Quinnipiac, NYMC, Albany and others.

Thank you for the informative reply. I was told that I would be a little too late for the MD cycle and my chances would be lower due my lower than average grades for MD schools. I appreciate that additional information and will keep that in mind!

If you want to apply to MD schools you could submit your application in June and select only one school. Then if your MCAT is good in August you can add additional schools so you would still be early enough in the MD cycle.

Hello again @Faha
I appreciate the help and information you offered me back in May. I just got my score back and received a 508 (127/124/128/129) and was wondering if my CARS would cause me to be screened out. Now that I have a score I'll have a better idea of where to apply. In addition to the 4 SUNY's, would I have a shot at schools like NYU, Albert Einstein, Stony Brook? I truly appreciate everyone's help.

You are competitive for any DO school with your MCAT score so apply to at least 10. Your chances for MD schools are ~50% so apply to all 4 SUNY's and consider these:
Quinnipiac
Vermont
New York Medical College
Albany
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
GW
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Creighton
Tulane
With your stats Einstein and NYU are far reaches.

Thank you very much @Faha . Are you familiar with schools screening based on individual section scores? I'm a little worried about my CARS.

Ahh, darn. Nonetheless, thank you very much for all of your help and advice. It's always nice to have someone guide you in unfamiliar territory. Have a great day!
