Hey there! I am a 27-year-old female first time applicant. I am a NC resident and first generation student. The environment I grew up in prioritized working/the easy route over college so although vet medicine has unfailing been a passion, my parents encouraged me to pursue the rad tech program at my community college but my heart obviously wasn't in it which led to slacking off the first few years of college. I've also had a few gaps (mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and dad passed away in 2016). My life experiences have given me the motivation and determination to absolutely kill it at my primary institution (UNCW) but I'm still concerned with my cGPA. Please let me know what you think!

Already applied to: NCSU, Midwestern, Illinois, and Ohio State
Application in progress: Virginia Tech, Michigan State, and Iowa

Cumulative GPA: 3.18 (VMCAS calculation)
Science GPA: 3.40
Last 55 (had to include another semester to get 45) : 3.61

-BS in biology (December 2021)

Veterinary Experience:
- Shadowed equine vet (30 hours)

Animal Experience:
- Raptor rehabilitation center (40 hours)

Research Experience:
- Directed independent study - co-infection of parasites in grass shrimp (480 hours)
- Assisted in necropsy and case report on canine bronchiectasis with a DVM student - awaiting publication (240 hours)

Awards/scholarships:
- Dean’s list (spring 2021)

Extracurriculars:
- Volunteer with an animal rescue
- Pre-veterinary club member
- Volunteer with Ocean Events

Non Animal Employment:
-
Subway sandwich artist - first job (5150 hours)
- Server at Kickback Jacks (1410 hours)
- Server at CharBar 7 (1890 hours)

LORs:
- Veterinary radiologist (current employer)
- Veterinary radiologist (was a fill-in at work)
- Small animal and equine chiropractic vet (a rDVM at work and shadowed her mobile equine practice)

Personal statement:
Emphasis on traits/skills such as empathy, observation, and perseverance. Included that my passion doesn't stop at aiding the pet but also understanding and addressing client concerns. My mission is to provide guidance and create an improving society with compassion and dedication.

Main concerns: low cGPA and LOR's are all from vets and two are in the same specialty.

I think this truly depends on the schools you applied to and how your subjective parts of your application shine through. It's not ideal for sure.
LOR's are all from vets and two are in the same specialty.
This is a non-issue with 1 exception: if the schools requested letters from other professionals. If the schools wanted letters from profs or employers, it might make your application DOA
