Hi, this is my first time posting on here. I'm hoping to get some advice on my school list to apply for the 2026 cycle. I previously applied in 2023 cycle, but ended up going to paramedic school and have been working as a paramedic for the past 7 months.
  1. cGPA: 3.89, sGPA: 3.84 (these are from my undergrad, not sure if these will go up since I have about 35 more credits from my paramedic school)
  2. MCAT: May 2022: 513 (129/127/130/127); January 2025: 509 (127/127/127/128)
    • Wasn't able to study as much for my retake as I would have liked due to working full time
  3. CA resident
  4. ORM
  5. Private undergrad in SoCal
  6. Clinical experience:
    • 4.5 years (4250 hrs) as EMT (2.5 yrs at time of previous app)
    • 6 months (100 hrs) volunteering in playroom at children’s hospital (not technically clinical?)
    • 1 year (~1600 hrs) as ER tech (new since previous app)
    • 6 month paramedic internship (2 months in trauma center / pediatric ED) (new since previous app)
    • 1 year (~3200 hrs) as 911 paramedic at time of primary app (new since previous app)
  7. No research experience
  8. Shadowing:
    • 12 hours shadowing orthopedic surgeon
    • 12 hours in L&D (new since previous app)
    • 6 hours in cardiac cath lab (new since previous app)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering:
    • 1.5 years (350 hrs) leader/intern for church young adults ministry
    • 2 years (300 hrs) volunteering in church kid’s ministry
    • Volunteering for county social services agency with child victims of abuse (~4 months by time of primary app)
  10. Extracurriculars:
    • Paramedic academy class president (new since previous app)
    • 2 years student leadership council for science college
    • 3 years tutoring (600 hrs) middle/high schoolers
  11. Honors / awards:
    • Paramedic Academy top scholar (new since previous app)
    • [undergrad science college] talent scholar (awarded yearly to science college students for academic achievement)
    • [undergrad] presidential school (awarded to students for academic achievement)
  12. I was WLed at two schools last time I applied, decided to go to paramedic school to advance my scope and because I have a strong interest in EM, ended up getting an A once I had already started medic school so I ended up withdrawing it because I was really excited about getting paramedic experience and the A was at a school I wasn’t in love with after interviewing (looking back I should have withdrew from the WL but just didn’t think about it at the time). Honestly, had no idea what I was doing when I previously applied, I have no one in my life that is in medicine so I learned a lot during that application cycle about what schools I should have / shouldn’t have applied to, writing secondary essays, etc.
  13. School list
    • Since I have been out of college for over 3 years, getting faculty letters from undergrad isn’t possible but I will be trying to get letters from faculty of my paramedic school, so I'm trying to exclude schools that require science professor letters
    • This list is just what I have so far, but hoping to scale it down

Welcome to the forums.

For my curiosity, why not Loma Linda?
I applied there my last cycle and was ghosted after submitting my secondary so I'm not sure if I would have a good chance reapplying there. Additionally, they require a LOR from a science professor, which I would be unable to obtain.

I suggest these schools with your stats:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Georgetown
George Washington
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
Methodist (when it opens)
NOVA MD
Belmont
Tulane
TCU
Alice Walton
Creighton
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Roseman
California University
UC Davis
UC Riverside (if you are from that region)
For DO schools I suggest these:
