Cum. GPA: 3.52
Science GPA: 3.34
MCAT: 505 to a 503 retake (125/125/127/128--> 126)

State of Residence: MN
Race: White (Fluent in Spanish)

EC:
•100 hours shadowing (MD and DO)
•200 hours volunteer free clinic
•500 hours volunteer animal rescue
•400 hours clinical research (no publications, poster and credit)
•700 hours Undergraduate TA
•2000 hours CNA (Nursing Home and Hospital)
•Gap year, beginning Clinical Research position at a hospital (Can I include this in my application?)

Activites:
•Sorority membership w/ leadership position

I am not sure how many D.O. schools to apply to and where to apply. Do I have a chance at any MD programs, or is it a waste of money to apply?

Thank you for your input!!

If you are looking at DO programs, a few good schools to look at are GA-PCOM and VCOM-Carolinas. You're best bet though is to apply to the brand new South GA-PCOM that is opening this fall 2019. Less people will know about a new medical school opening, they will be more laid back on admission standards, and it's a great area to go to medical school because you are not far from the beach. Also, please try to find something that is unique about yourself to put in your application, no matter how small it is. Everyone will have shadowing, volunteer, greek life etc, but if there is one thing that is super unique about yourself, regardless of how small it is, make sure to include it on your application.

I wouldn't consider GA-PCOM a good school, but it will get the job done. Also, it's actually bad advice to recommend someone to a brand new school especially in this climate where things are only getting more competitive for DOs with the merger.

GA_PCOM is a pretty good school actually, especially for rotations sake because of the affiliations with Atlanta hospitals. While I recommend MD>DO when it comes to the new merger since it screws DOs, as far as getting accepted to medical school at an osteopathic location, it is not a bad idea to apply to a new school. It's easier to get accepted because they have not developed a tradition or a standard that has hardened yet.
